COVID-19 Virus

This is likely happening every place.
A real struggle to let us know how deadly this is.
An estimated additional 180 - 195 deaths per day occurring at home in New York City due to COVID-19 are not being counted in the official figures. "Early on in this crisis we were able to swab people who died at home, and thus got a coronavirus reading. But those days are long gone. We simply don't have the testing capacity for the large numbers dying at home. Now only those few who had a test confirmation *before* dying are marked as victims of coronavirus on their death certificate. This almost certainly means we are undercounting the total number of victims of this pandemic," said Mark Levine, Chair of New York City Council health committee

I feel so guilty, my flock’s routine is getting all messed up during this situation. My birds are used to getting out of cage time after work everyday and more on weekends. The current events have me working 4 - 12 hour shifts (plus commute time), then having a couple days off, then back on for 4 12’s. I’m feeding them in the wee hours of the morning on my way out and coming home after their bedtime. I know that in the grand scheme of things that this doesn’t rate as a tragedy....but it doesn’t stop me from feeling like I’m a terrible bird mom right now when they look so confused. Hope it’s okay to articulate that feeling here - it’s not something that I can say elsewhere and have people understand why I feel badly about it. Hope everyone is staying safe!

That’s rough. I totally get it.

Her speech was *lovely*. I felt so much better afterwards and thought to myself ā€œit’s okay. Chin up. We’re British. We will survive. Let’s have teaā€ and then I remembered I’m American and decided to just pretend for a little while that I’m not.

Did I miss her or has it been a bit since our OP has provided an update?
Miss your developing county charm dear Bugs...

Plus, loving your Governor!

I'm not going to even ask if you would like to trade, as the answer is well understood!

Turns out my 3 favorite hobbies are:
1. Eating at restaurants
2. Shopping at non-essential businesses
3. Touching my face

So China says no new deaths, right? Means there is light at the end of this tunnel.

Looking ahead to when this is all "over." Vaccine still not expected soon. We've slowed this by separating, but not eradicated.

And our gov't insists medical professionals have some mutation that allows them to protect themSelves by using masks, whereas for the general public, masks protect only Others and Not Self. Currently most people do not seem to choose to engage in this particular public service. However the govt's Guidance to do so, at least makes it Slightly more Acceptable to cover one's face in public. (However on my last visit to grocery store, one young clerk actually was rude about my mask!)

My HOPE is, that when we are given permission to return to our lives, that perhaps facemasks will have become as acceptable here as in some Asian countries. I would prefer to continue wearing face-covering at least until we have a working vaccine. My Concern is, that the persistent message still continues that Only sick people should wear masks, and most people do not like to admit to sickness.

Health is such a religion that "un-health" (which includes sickness) occupies the mental space that for previous generations was reserved for "immoral." Right now, people are having a mental turn-around; this sickness is an enemy. But few people are wearing even homemade masks, and the last time I was out wearing one, people were still giving me Looks. I think it's because people aren't willing to admit they could harbor Un-Health.

Most people aren't wearing them in my area either. I too wore a mask and had a woman roll her eyes and say 'oh please!' while another woman crossed herself in addition to all the "looks" by others. It is my hope as well that masks will be more accepted here as in other countries.

Dang-- I feel like I live in a pretty skeptical state, but people are wearing them (not originally, but following the CDC advice, they have started).

Where I'm at in S. Central Oklahoma I'm seeing more with masks, gloves or mask and gloves. Today I went to the store with mask and gloves, and wasn't the only one. I really don't care what anyone thinks about seeing me with a mask and gloves. All they have to do is look the other way and keep going. In fact, to me those that don't want to wear protection are playing a foolish game with the virus, as if they are saying "catch me if you can". It's sort of like a nature film I saw where a zebra broke away from the herd because it thought it would have a big green patch all to itself. Little did it know a pride of lions were hiding and waiting to ambush it, and they got it and killed it. Same with the virus, it could get you when you let your guard down.

Don't worry about what others think. You must do what feels right to you.

So China says no new deaths, right? Means there is light at the end of this tunnel....

If you are believing China, well, don’t!

Is that the same China that states (and our National Media Repeats it) that the Virus was created by the US Army and taken to China and infected 4 to 6 people, who daily carried it into a Wet Market, from which it spread in to the Wuhan and from there World Wide. Well with the exception of the US Army part, everything else is correct!

And, now they are 'selling' the medical supplies that was donated from this little boot shaped country that had donated those supplies to China in the first place... What sweet hearts! I sure hope that I have that wrong...

Way to go China!

Sure Inger, why not?? :)

All you gotta do to qualify is, while washing your hands for the requisite 20 seconds, replace ā€œHappy Birthdayā€ with ā€œAdvance Australia Fairā€. Or ā€œGod Save The Queenā€. You just have to sing ā€˜em a bit faster to fit in to the 20 seconds :)

Pretty much what they are doing.

FDH
Currently, the FDOH data shows a slow increase in the number of deaths attributed to the COVID-19 virus. As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the FDOH reported 296 deaths.

On April 2, Mokdad said Florida was on track to have almost 7,000 people die from COVID-19 by Aug. 4 but he admits that number could be drastically swayed based on social distancing and stay-at-home measures being followed by Floridians.

ā€œIt could go up to 18,000 deaths, or it could go as low as 1,700 deaths,ā€ Mokdad said.

Mokdad said the number of deaths is directly tied to how well people are following the 30 day stay-at-home

And, Michigan is currently sitting in third place pushing quickly to 800 deaths by tomorrow. In the days ahead watch Western Michigan gaining in the number of dead as our Governor is has pushed ever increasing numbers of individuals to that part of the State to use beds. If they pass, it will be counted as deaths in that area, likely showing as a Hot Spot. This even when the US Government is providing additional beds in Eastern Michigan. Nothing, like skewing the numbers and separating loved ones in one quick move.

A study by disease modelers at the University of Texas at Austin states that "Given the low testing rates throughout the country, we assume that 1 in 10 cases are tested and reported. If a county has detected only 1 case of COVID-19, there is a 51%
chance that there is already a growing outbreak underway" [source]
