Re: Wuhan virus
Oh dear, Please stay safe Charmedbyekkie!
There are I believe 4 total quarantined cruise ships now. One is docked in New Jersey. 4 were sent to hospital(at least 2 on stretchers) and another 23 flew back to China(reports are sort of confusing). I saw a video of what was claimed to be some of the passengers being unloaded from the ship to ambulances to go to hospital, and the emts did NOT appear to be wearing even masks????? I am SO glad my husband is not currently affiliated with a department. After this blows over he can affiliate with a local department. Until recently, he was still driving back to the DC area to do a 48 hour shift with his old department 1x a month. SO thankful I don't have to worry about him in this. But I worry about the people at his old department. They are like family to him, and he said the Ebola safety training they were given was laughably inadequate. Luckily Ebola never was a real threat here, but this? Who knows.
At least the reports coming off Diamond Princess seem like the passengers are being treated as well as could be expected. Lots of good food(frequent meals), they enhanced the wifi so those in rooms without balconies or windows have more to focus on, they have been letting passengers with inner cabins up to the fresh air for 1.5 hours each(one deck at a time). Rules are: masks, gloves, scarves, hats required, no congregating in groups, no standing closer than 1 m to talk to someone. But they get fresh air under supervision of quarantine guards. I have even heard they are sending special care packages to those who have a kid or kids with them. Plus, as tests come back positive, they are removing the positive passengers to hospitals for isolation and quarantine. All things considered, it seems they are treating the passengers well.
Taiwan is searching for anyone who may have been in contact with any of the passengers though. It seems the Diamond Princess docked in Taiwan and the passengers were let off for a full day to see the sights. Japan is now asking all cruise ships to stay away. It seems 11 of the infected from Diamond Princess are Americans.
