COVID-19 Virus

Re: Wuhan virus

The bamboo is for when they run out of tp? :D

Re: Wuhan virus

Lol in Florida our tap water is nasty! Tastes like sulfur, or just very yucky, no one I know drinks it, or gives it to their pets.. ridiculous that our tap water is this way!!! So we always stock up!!!
I don't have toilet paper to last me a month, and I wish I did.
The CDC or FEMA or Homeland Security websites said to have extra water, toliot paper and food that would not spoil... The scary thing is they also said to have on hand things to purify or filter water. .....uh. why?!? Will the water be contaminated?;?!?
I think people just want to have a month supply of stuff in case their town goes on locked, or their stores close because a bunch of employees have the virus...

UK says it expects 1/5 of all work force to be sick at the same time at peak of outbreak. They also say will take 3 months to peak, then 3 more months to decline...

While a lot of bad stuff is going to happen, supply chain disruption , things closed, we will get past this.

We all have to limit spreading. We are all links in the chain. Shoes that are worn outside, not be worn inside. All the virus particles in the air fall to the ground, and can remain viable up to a possibility of 9 days. Wipe down purses, glasses, phones, tablets, bags, keys, door knobs, Wash hands many times a day. Take a shower when you come home , change clothes, wash those clothes right away.

Re: Wuhan virus

Not gonna lie.. my purse has been freaking me out for days, and I always wash my hands if I touch my keys, but...I don't think most people give these a second thought. DISINFECT YOUR DANG PHONES TOO!!!! UGH..If you touch a contaminated surface (steering wheel, keys, railing, doorknob (even to your own house), debit card, purse, etc and then touch your phone, all of your washing was pointless, as many people touch them all day long...at work (nasty), at the store (nasty) and in the bathroom (nasty) ---followed by the dinner table...

I have spoken with master's degree students who said "I just washed them" (after having washed hands in the bathroom and touched 20 objects-- including pens/pencils, having returned to the room to eat..) This is a huge problem. If your hands are clean, you only have to touch ONE THING (including your own face that you have been touching all day with dirty hands) to recontaminate your fingers. Don;t get me started on people who use their uncleaned phones to look up dinner recipes or play music while cooking (heck...texting while cooking with a nasty phone...disinfecting that needs to happen DAILY)

Phones aside, a rule for my family was ALWAYS, wash your hands when you come home...I don't know how people don't do this--why bring the outside in???..Same with when you wake up in the morning (you don't know where your hands were when you were sleeping!!!)

Re: Wuhan virus

So, why all the TP?
It is important to remember that a distressed digestive system will require a minimum of five times the TP in a 24 hour period over normal use.

It is also important to remember that the listed being provided is a standard list of 'must have' items for a general emergency most commonly weather related tied to a wide spread primary power failures, hence the lost of city water systems.

With a base supply in place, the other goal is to keep people home and not out and about.

Re: Wuhan virus

Yep! Still seeing people cough and not make any effort to cover thier mouths.

Wash your hands before you brush your teeth.
Everyone's needs to become a germaphobe , and OCD

YES- but it isn't just about infecting yourself, it is about infecting others, We must all remember that the incubation can go up to 27 days (in some cases) and that children (and many others) WILL NEVER SHOW SYMPTOMS (despite playing an active role in transmitting this very dangerous virus). We cannot rely on symptoms as an indicator of increased caution....You may feel healthy and never show symptoms, but that doesn't mean you won't get sick...and many who do not get sick, still manage to infect others who die.

People not covering their mouths is one of the reasons this virus will keep spreading. And think of game shows like Price Is Right and Family Feud with all the hand handling on those shows. Perfect vehicle for spread. I've even seen some leaving public restrooms without washing their hands.

Re: Wuhan virus

The outbreaks in the nursing home and the tv interview relatives who have visited before outbreak detected, yet talking to reporters! Come on people! Plus saying fifty with symptom get those people tested already!

A LAX CDC contractor from weapons of mass destruction ( uhmmm didn't know we had those people) who tested ( think temp taking not actually coronavirus testing, is now sick.....oh man how many people did he spread that to, and he was wearing protective equipment.
Why haven't we heard from WHO lately....

84 of 197 countries have reported cases...the others likely lack resources....Pandemic already come on
No centralized reporting of US cases cone on US get it together!

Stop taking cruises during a Worldwide (pandemic) multiple epidemics..... seriously...,. Another cruise ship outbreak

Workers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Coast Guard and state health agencies are going onboard to conduct tests as there are 11 passengers and 10 crew members that have developed symptoms that need to be checked, Gov. Gavin Newsom said. The ship will be held at sea, he said. Cluster of people who already disembarking tested positive

It is carrying about 2,500 passengers,

Well you know with all these things going on like this virus, mass shootings, destructive tornadoes, etc., etc., there's some scary stuff going down. I can only imagine what's coming next, and there will be a coming next . . . . . . . . . . . .

Just being constructive.

The Sun will come up tomorrow as the Earth continues its path around the Sun. As the cold of the far North begins to retreat in the face of the heat of the South, the two will face-off, in stormy display. Weather will be vicious or beautiful.

Humans dislike admitting to the reality that for the most part, we are along for the ride. In a couple of billion years, as our Sun continues to age and becomes larger, it will be far too hot on this Earth for near all life.

None of this means that we should not do our best to live in balance with this Planet and the full breath of the life in which we share it.

It also means that we should always provide a hand to each other as the forces of this Earth rages around us.

Life comes with few assurances.

I find great joy in those around me and here on this Forum. Enjoy each moment to its fullest...

Re: Wuhan virus

well said sailboat.... also it helps I have my prep, but I did that long before the news on the virus. I figured tornado or some other natural disaster. Only thing I added was some flu meds etc.

Re: Wuhan virus

Well Im glad for this thread. TY to you all for starting it and continuing it. When on the news I saw quarantine in China, I realized I was all out of masks (I use when housecleaning due to dust allergy), and found they were already unavailable in any stores around here, and on Amazon the few that were available had jumped to unimaginable prices. (Now they have gone back "down" to about $30/box. !!)

But it was thanks to This Thread that I have already, and with no lines or problems (1) got some extra bird food (really I probably already had more than sufficient supply-ahead, but no-worries now), and then (2) started to ponder what might I want to have on hand. (3) Checked my non-perishables. Picked up a little extra of one or two items & I'm good. (4) Made sure of my meds & also OTC's - including what I might want for a flu-like or respiratory-infection like illness - double-checked exp dates & picked up a couple items. (As an asthmatic, I always keep certain OTC's on hand.)

(5) CHECKED MY SUPPLIES OF COFFEE! An extra 2 cans of folgers, AND a jar of cheap instant. YEAH this is in case of a quarantine-style emergency plus-power-outage. If not used, this might eventually expire & get thrown out. But caffeine is ESSENTIAL! For the cost of a cup or two of Starbucks, I have caffeine-security.

Then (6) started stocking up on TP and water!!

Why TP - why water? Well regarding TP -- who wants to go to the store looking for more TP when you NEED it? Heh heh. Hey I like to use the nice Charmin but I've just been adding one or two of the less-nice 1,000-sheet rolls to every shopping trip -- since this thread started. Hey, if my hoard isn't needed, then in the future I will just add those to my rotation till my hoard is smaller again. Not a big expense and -- thanks again to this thread! -- no line-standing or TP panic!

As far as water. I don't know how many people it takes to run the water supply for my town, or how much sickness amongst which public works workers would shut it down. But I do know - whenever there's a fire in my town & they run the hydrants, the tap water goes brown. Takes a day or two afterward to go clear again. And if I make the mistake of putting this water into the brita, it ruins the filter.

So, like with the TP, from the beginning of This Thread I started picking up extra water. Hey, it'll get used, I'll rotate stock etc. But gee otherwise IF there were a water-supply problem due to this emergency.... how could I make my Coffee??!!?? :)

Re: Wuhan virus

We have not gotten bottled water. Did our time with that last year before we even had the hose for water we have now. But that time taught us a few things... this property is never without water. Even in the height of summer where it literally won't rain a drop for over a month, there are still pools of water in the creekbed. We have iodine and water filters. Plus we are thinking about a "dig your own well and save" kit. This is the mountains, our water is NOT very deep in the ground. We could dig ourselves a well easy. Plus there are some natural springs on the land; the previous owners bragged about finding some and drinking directly from them.

Re: Wuhan virus

So, there is three “cases” in my city :O
And what I mean is, three are being watched for possible exposure...
Scary how fast this can travel and how close it can get to some.
We have some food and water stocked for now and a LOT of dog food.

Re: Wuhan virus

Thank Bug n flock for starting this thread. Thank you sll who posted.
And even thank to those who have me flack, because of you I stuffed more facts, statistics, expert opinions in this thread!!!

This fact not fear compaign has been light on facts! Plus s little fear is a good motivation! Makes you thi k about risk management.

Right now people over 60 and high risk group need to stop eating out, no fast food no restaurant eating. Avoid crowds. Cancelling routine dental or health , only serious health issues. Cancel elective procedure's

From the ground up we as every day people can make the biggest difference! My neighbors is stock up groceries for elderly, and taking their pets who had vet appointment, to lowered the edey people's risk of exposure! How fantastic is that?! Can. You help elderly faimly freinds and neighbor?

If you have cases in your hood, urge your schools to close.

If you want real time days from around the world, with fs ts and science. Go to worldometer coronavirus, a better source than any government is providing!!!

Re: Wuhan virus

Someone was sent home from my work Yesterday for 14 days because they had been to Japan.
I hear tell others in the area were nervous about this person in the area and he/she was forced to go home.

Re: Wuhan virus

No TP? An Australian newspaper printed a special edition with 8 pages of blank sheets and a guide how to tear into strips!

Re: Wuhan virus

Here is a map of confirmed cases witch is currently updated: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:COVID-19_Outbreak_World_Map.svg

Yesterday the first case was confirmed here in Poland. I live about 400-500 km away from the city where it was confirmed, so far but here people are getting crazy.... they buy a lot of soaps, pasta etc., today I noticed in my university disinfectant liquids in different places in different departments:rolleyes:
