COVID-19 Virus

Well, the National Update today IMHO was both terrifying and informative as to the numbers used to determine the what and why's the National guidelines have been extended to the end of April. The number of potential deaths filled the terrifying slot heavily.

Some may have noticed that I have not commented on the discussion regarding Hospitals not reporting actual number of cases and/or deaths to their State and then the CDC. Since, and to this day, I have difficulties fully believe those occurrences. The reason is that when the Hospital chooses to under report their cases and/or deaths they shift the payment structure and as a result, reduce the amount they will be paid by the National Government. I'm not saying it is not possible that such has or is occurring only that from the hard, cold money side of it, it doesn't make sense...

I'm daily stuck by our losses, both by the numbers and just who they represent. Those individuals who are dying ever day: Children, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, grand parents and great Gand parents. Each individual important, very important to those who they left behind. It will be months before we see the full breath of our united loss.

As others have said; this World will be a very different place. It will be a stunning reality that we have yet to begin to understand...

Moral questions for you all.

My neighbor is 67, heart failure, ( managed) COPD, liver trouble. He is washing his hands. But says if he gets it he gets it. Says he won't stay home more than 3 days, goes out just for fun, eats out a lot cuz likes fast food.

Now if he gets this, he has a dog and a cockatiel. His family lives far away. I would probably be the one to take care if his pets, in his coronavirus house........ But I myself am very high risk with multiple autoimmune diseases, myasthenia gravis, chrones, pernicious anemia...
I don't want to risk death, because of him not tski this seriously!!!!!!!!!

Florida is skyrocketed in cases. We do not ha e a shelter in place order.....

I've explained risks to him, given him info, given him resources, gave him a mask a d hand sanitizer.

But he doesn't want his life to be inconvenient. O hope he never gets this, and stays healthy!!! I pray hard!

But if he does, do I put myself at risk?
Edit:
I can't take the medication they would need to use. As many medicine cause exasperation of Myasthenia gravis. I can have contrast medicine used in catscans and xrsts because they cause my oxygen level to drop below 70%..

"Several antibiotics are known to worsen myasthenia gravis (MG). ... Aminoglycosides are well known to worsen MG. About some newer antibiotics, such adverse effects are not clearly known. However, there are some anecdotal reports of exacerbation of MG with macrolides, such as azithromycin and telithromycin."

I think after researching, I've answered my own moral question. I can't risk my life, because of someone else taking risks with theirs.......
This is what would happen and has already happened time Ms y times.....

Complications occur when a treatment or medication causes MG to flare, or triggers a crisis. A crisis may occur suddenly or gradually.

It is important for you to seek care as soon as you feel a crisis coming on to ensure proper medical intervention. If you are feeling short of breath, it is very important to call 911 or get medical help immediately.

Myasthenic Crisis: This is a complication of MG characterized by worsening of muscle weakness resulting in respiratory failure. This happens when the respiratory muscles get too weak to move enough air in and out of the lungs. A ventilator, which is a machine to help you breathe, is necessary in these cases. The ventilator can help you breathe through a tube in your airway (endotracheal intubation) or through a tight-fitting mask on the face (Bi-PAP).

It's time to buckle down on the isolation.

My concern with going for walks, visiting parks, going golfing , useing a public boat ramp to launch your boat.
Listen, the virus can stay airborne a minium of 3 hours, if you walk through a space that someone else walked through within the 3 hour ,( likely more) time you are getting exposed to the virus. There are reports that the virus can hitch a ride on pollen, on dust, on air pollution, there by statistics alof in the air longer. Also as we have all seen can stay viable on surfaces for days. So you can touch stuff or pick up on your shoes.

Is 6 feet far enough stay away from people, doubtful, see above. Also MIT is now saying 27 feet.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...esearcher-lydia-bourouiba-27-feet/5091526002/

My first thought reading this, about virus 27 Feet and Airborne 3 hours -- is that we would ALL have it by now already if this were correct. So I read the article you linked, and the other scientists in the article also say that. From this article I get the sense that it's more - yes - it's possible at 27 feet and yes it's possible you still have remaining contamination some time afterward. But that's Not the main way it spreads. If it were, we might as well all curl up & die right now because there'd be no hope.

That said - do I think most people's concept of 6-Feet is safe? No. Because most people in public or in workplaces actually just kinda Stand Back. What people actually practice is Out-Of-Arms-Reach. Which isn't surprising.

I had to go to Comcast store to get router to do work-at-home. They were limiting people in the store, and had X's on the floor where to stand. So, techno-geeks, they had Actually measured what is Actually 6-feet. Well you know what? You can barely have a conversation at 6 feet. Especially if your mouth is covered so they can't read your lips! And that was even when they already knew just what I was saying.

I went in another store that had marked their floor, for distancing in lines, and their idea of 6-feet was actually about 36 inches. And of course, you cannot get even that far apart from the cashier.

The reason 6-feet is safe is because it greatly limits interaction. The reason it doesn't work, especially if you have to go almost anywhere in public, is because people fail to actually implement 6-ft (even when they think they do!)... because it greatly limits interaction.

Maybe if the govt told people to stay 27-ft away from each other, maybe they would actually maintain a Full 6-ft distance.

What do they tell people on an airplane? Put on OWN oxygen before helping anyone else, even own child. Why? Because if you become incapacitated, you cannot help anyone else.

No matter how heartbreaking you cannot let yourself be exposed to so high a known risk. IF he takes ill, you call and see if a Rescue can come for them. Or animal control as worst option.

IF you go to take care of his animals and become incapacitated from the attempt, then his pets are No better off but now Your own animals LOSE YOU.

Your moral responsibility is to have the best chance at continuing to care for the larger number of animals by NOT going into that known danger, and also by doing every thing you possibly can to avoid or minimize any possible risk of exposure.

Quite right fiddlejen! Laura you simply cannot put your own welfare at risk for the sake of someone who is behaving so irresponsibly! It’s selfish people like that who strip the supermarket shelves of essentials, not caring about the needs of others and the part they may be playing in spreading this disease around when so many others are trying to do the right thing! Evidently he cares little for his animals or his neighbours. You must keep yourself safe Laura, your feathered and furry babies need you!

Looked at the new numbers and closed cases and nothing short of terrifying. Death rate now pretty much at 20%. A lot higher then the 2% they tried claiming earlier?

As so very well stated above with the air mask example. In the worst case example provided, the numbers of deaths was in the millions. When individuals choose to not follow the requested methods of limiting the spread and thus its effects -- we place ourselves and others at risk.

As an old guy, I can understand his position regarding accepting the reality of death and that is fine for oneself. The dangerous part is the lack of concern regarding others. That is the error in his thinking... Not caring about or for 'others.'

Back to the aircraft example, you have to think of yourself first and then depending on your abilities and just as importantly, your limitations, others. In such a case, you can no longer provide support, as the individual has all ready chosen. There is no sanity in this as he has limited your choices. The sad truth is, this individual has long ago chosen to die, it's only a matter of when.

Morality is doing what you can safely do based on saving yourself. Ask for the contact information for his family. With hope, that may get him thinking.

Very sorry that your neighbor has place you and others in this position...

Thank you for all, Sailboat, Lamanku, fiddlejen,

His actions would put many others at risk, if I help him I'm at risk, my 4 dogs, and six parrot would need care, what if my parents who love me , tried to help my pets, that puts them at risk too, and they are elderly, and the health care workers that would have to care for him !

Our actions effect many other people!!

Right now Florida projected deaths are 11,000 and that's if we put a shelter in place order by Monday........

You have seen multiple news reports on Floridian not taking sociol distancing seriously! Constantly our leadership stress cases are travel or out if state people getting sick in our state, yet at near 7,000 cases those travel related cases are a tiny fraction.

I had to go to the bank yesterday, I saw a lot if people out and about, fair size groups out walking, yes many were 6 feet apart, but inba breezy day, six feet behind , abd six feet on either side, seems like risk to me, you are mere seconds of being in the same airspace as the people infront if you, and when fifty people are walking in front if you that's significance....when you are sitting six feet apart on benches by the beach and the breeze is shifting, abd you sit there for an hour, that's significantly raises exposure...

I am wondering
If anyone.
Has noticed the lack of/reduction in....

Telemarketing/scammer phone calls !
:60:

on an average day I would say we get about a dozen calls.
It more like 2 or 3 now.

There is always a silver lining if you look hard enough.

Actually This is because the US Justice dept. filed a bunch of injunctions....

But there a lot of scam calls dealing with corona that are increasing.

But it's nice dropped off for me too.

Hey guys. I'm not caught up on this thread. Needed a break. Had more nightmares last night anyway.

Yesterday was our worst day so far. 114 new cases and 7 new deaths in 1 day. We are not supposed to leave the state except for a very few specific reasons. We are encouraged not to travel outside of our counties. Outsiders are still allowed in the state for now, but if they are here for something other than those same few exceptions, they are supposed to self quarantine for 14 days no matter what state they come from. Uninforcable tho.

The church services stopped. I hope they are not doing in person services and are doing over short range radio or something. I hope you all are well. I will probably try to catch up on the thread today some time, maybe tomorrow. IDK. Mental health is important. I'm going to go hug Alex again. Or maybe just the Alex and Hima plushies if he is being grumpy.

My caller ID tells me "probable spam" a couple times a day..haven't seen any in a few days now :)

Not only that, but my online gun shops used to send out sale coupons almost daily....haven't received one since this all started and it is costing me money since my online shopping has increased.

I read this! Then looked for other article, and lost the original article to source the below!
" Italy, with about a fifth of the U.S. overall population, currently has recorded 105,792 deaths, according to tracking by Johns Hopkins researchers."

I did find a second article , that said many cities have deaths in the hundreds or over a thousand even if only a handful are currently counted as coronavirus deaths...!!!!
( Lost that one to in copy paste)
So I'm still going to say that the over 100 thousands deaths might very well be true, even if the counter says 13,000
Very hard to hear.

Since being home from hospital for two weeks now,I have been out just once to do some grocery shopping with my brother. ALOT less people out there..less traffic by the house...going nuts in the house and it is starting to warm up now. I just want to go sit on the deck with Amy and suck up some sunshine. Maybe NEXT week when it gets in the mid 60's. I can't even go to the local park/soccer field to fly my drone coz all parks are closed.

Fou d article, have to scroll down to see this part

EDITthey changed deaths to cases.......but as we already 200,000 cases it made sense the way it was written before, as they were trying to predict USA death rate not case number...

Is this because people cant afford health care and cant get help? Or is this because people are self isolating when they have the virus, so not included in the numbers, only when/if they fall really ill do they go to hospital and therefore are 'counted' where as the vast majority of people going through it WILL SURVIVE and never make it in to the counts.

I cant see any reason for the death toll to be higher than any where else unless the virus has mutated in the US, but you would have been told if it had.

worryingly in the UK, kids are dying of it now, yesterday a healthy 13yr old died.

BTW, My GF is feeling a little better, but it seems to have an easy part for 36hrs before going a lot harder on you. Im sure ill know later on if this is the case.

Please take care all, especially you Laura, personally id give him the reality of
if he takes ill, he will die, and his animals.. Look after your self.

Thanks! Glad to hear GF is doing better!
I enlisted another neighbor to gang up on my other neighbor about being safe!
Florida finally enlisted Stay At Home Order started Friday, that will help!!!

I just got delivered from My Safe Bird Store, they fast! They have great stuff! Great prices!!! Thanks Billie!!! Now got chew stuff and toys and treats to tsne my loud beasts! They had been running low on stuff to destroy.. :) hope it helps the loudness!

It cost me $1600 for a Desert Eagle which could have bought for $1250 before the virus. Now when up to $1750 yesterday and out of stock everywhere. Thankfully did finally get one. As been after it for well over a few year. Bought my favorite a nice condition Colt 1911 last week from friend as local store was sold out. I thought I never see the day older ladies will buy a hand cannon. Well saw that happened last week. LOL

My county did the unprecedented, and released towns with cases!!! Because they can't trace and aren't related. My town has 12. Not travel related each case not related. We have one Walmart and 2 grocery stores. They said they are worried about spread and trying to set up testing spot for us all...

If I ruled the world I would test all staff at Walmart and grocery stores, as probably a person with no symptoms is spreading...m
