Hi again,
I'm new to lovebirds and I've read some contradictory information online about nesting boxes. I'm getting a single unsexed AC lovebird this Sat (cannot wait!), and I wonder if I need to provide a "nest" in the cage. My conure doesn't have anything like that and hates big objects in his cage and would never go into any "nest". What about lovebird? Would he/she like a place to hide and rest? I have one really nice and sturdy small cardboard box right now that I could use (or otherwise I just recycle it). Thank you for response!
I also wonder if you would give me some more tips for the first week or two? The bird is 6 mo old, not tame and very shy (according to current owner). I asked the lady to clip her a little bit, but I'm not sure if she does that. None of my rooms is bird proof, and if she is unclipped and scared she might end up injuring herself. I want her to fly, but to be safe as well. My conure is clipped, but he flies all over the place all the time, just not too fast.
I also wonder about the cage. I got one from Petco 12W 16.5L 22H which seemed too small to me, and another one from CL today - it's 18W 30L 16H. So would the bigger one be better? It's very long horizontally but not very high, so he/she could fly in it a bit. The cage would be on the top of the dresser so she would feel like she is above everybody.
I plan on having her out of the cage most of the time when I'm home. I cannot afford to buy any more cages though - so have to choose between these two!
Thank you!
