Domnijoe - The Art Studio and Bird Herder's Residence

Cut it close with this coop/cage! A 'buyer' almost scammed me out of $500! Yikes! He sounded good until he started asking for gift cards - $500 worth for his daughter's B-day, and the sirens in my head went off.

Phew! Dodged the bullet there!

I can't find a cheap table wide enough :'( . It sucks!

HOw large do you need it? Folding 6ftx2ft tables at Lowes are pretty cheap.
ALSO, you can get something smaller and put a piece of plywood on top the correct size.

I need a 7 foot by 4 foot table :(

I purchased a heavy duty folding table for my crafts. Sometimes I need a temporary surface to drill, saw, glue and more on. Generally a surface I can abuse! Wipe, fold and put against the wall until next use. It is around 5 foot from Home Depot under 60$. Amazon, Wal-Mart and Costco have 8 foot heavy duty folding tables under 200$. Add a piece of plywood if needed for width. A piece of acrylic covering it to make it washable. Area under it can be used so decreased wasted space.

I think I found a table on Amazon that's wide enough :D. It's $215!

What I really like about sleeping on the bird room floor is that I get to spend time with the birds. At night, I usually head to the bedroom, but during the afternoon, I have a pillow (okay.. a glorified blanket...) and just sleep on the floor in front of the cages. Sure, I sometimes wake up with weird stuff in my hair, like the string of bird toy paper I thought I threw out months ago, but the birds seem to like it :) . Vortex especially likes it. She perches on the perch closest to me from the time I lie down until I get up. I'm clearly a flock member to her, heeheee.

Our bird room is our all purpose living room/great room/kitchen/dining room. 8 budgies free fly in the room from sun up to sundown. The adjacent porch room has 8 budgies in 2 large cages plus 3 in one smaller cage. Those three free fly in there all day. Then there's Joey who lives in our bedroom with us because she's a sex maniac at least until her implant takes effect.
We usually love having budgies as housemates but they're very messy.

My bird room is for Nameliss to watch TV alone. Or she can watch me on computer, sewing, crocheting, listening to audio books and more.

A first and a second for Yvons - The second: he let me pet him today! Just some minor scratches through the bars of the cage, but it was something. The first thing he's done is explore the top of the empty cage! Stayed there for 10 minutes before I suckered... I mean, convinced him... that the cage was where he was supposed to be.

Then Vortex got some flying done in the big cage :D .

I'm Gonna have to rearrange the blasted bird room if I'm gonna fit a table in here as well as a 7-foot-long cage. Right now, things are Tetris-ed pretty badly, but I have the studio to think of, too. Might hire a friend to help clean and tetris things when I can afford it :P . She is a MASTER of stacking shtuff!

I just noticed your signature. You have a bird named Tailgate? Since when???
LOL... Yeah! They're an 8-month-old green cheek conure- I believe a high red - that I got about 2-3 months ago. They're as sweet as the Dickens and personable :D . They're a typical GCC. They and Quasar are best friends !

Yvons has taken to honey-roasted, shelled peanuts that I get from a discount grocery chain up here called Giant Tiger. He sees me eating them, and he starts bobbing his head and whistling. When he's out of his cage, he goes to Vortex's cage and chows down what's in his food bowl there. Vortex gets some, too. When Yvons was back in his cage, I took her out and she b-lined it to the food bowl to eat Yvons' leftovers. What a stinker.

That's the technique I used to get Nameliss to eat broccoli, spinach, carrots etc. I even learned to like the stuff!

I was wondering how your flock is getting along. You had a couple of new additions in a relatively short period of time. Yvonn seems to be starting to explore. So I was wondering if he was showing signs of expanding his personal space. Nameliss has inconsistent personal territory lines. Those lines expand and contract based on unknown parameters.

So far, most of the birds are separated at play time, though Yvons and Vortex seem to get along through the cage bars. Quasar and Tailgate are getting along famously and generally stick close to their cage. They actually prefer to sit on the cage door and watch things, then flitter inside the cage again. The same goes for Charlie and Red. Charlie prefers sitting on the cage door to exploring. Red... he's happy if he gets food, LOL

Yvons is sllooooowly expanding his free time space. He regularly goes to Vortex's cage now for a dose of Peanuts and almonds. I plan on setting up the play gym that was in Vortex's play cage beside Yvon's cage. It just needs a major cleaning.

I just about had a heart attack today. Amazon was supposed to deliver bird toys, perches, and a book. The notice said it came... But it wasn't at my door when I checked. CUE THE PANIC! OMG!!!! I took the dog and searched the whole building, praying I didn't get stolen from. Turns out the delivery guy dropped it at the wrong door.... suite 2 instead of 28. **facepalm**

So here we are. Birds have some new toys and perches. The activity mat I got for Yvons is an instant hit. The book I'm gonna read slowly, as my eyes suck, but I really like the vlogger who wrote it, so it's promising to be an interesting read.

Vortex is currently honking up a storm. She's gonna be 2 on March 15th. I'm so lucky to have her! I'm so lucky to have all my birds!

Quasar is such a booger. Every night, before bed, the Feathered crew gets an almond or a peanut. They see the container and get excited. Well, I gave Tailgate a piece of peanut before giving Quasar one, and Quasar, before I could grab one for him, practically tripped over himself to grab it from Tailgate's toes.

And Vortex stepped up for me today! She was terrified of perches for a while because I overdid it with her and them, destroying her trust with them. I offered my arm instead. And waited. And waited. AND waited. She gave me an uncertain look and stepped up on my arm! She got an almond for that! I don't trust my dog around her ... Winter gets hyper fixated on my smaller birds when they're out of the cage, so when Vortex is out, Winter is in the bathroom :)

Yvons took food out of the play gym's food bowl. A matter of time before he actually steps up on the beast! LOL!
