Ekkie Beaks

Hi everyone, does anyone know the purpose is for these knife like daggers on the sides of Ekkie beaks?

No, he isn’t biting me, he’s trying to mate with me… the photo is deceiving.

Most parrots develop that extra cut in the upper beak, your Ekkie is not an exception. I think its much like a serrated blade. I know Salty's beak is razor sharp in places. THats one of them.
