Even when he loves me he hates me!

Hi in October of 2010 I adopted a Nanday Conure named Yago. At that point in time they guessed he was about 8 or so. Anyway Yago has had a couple of homes before mine and was probably abused. (He says 'stop screaming' to himself sometimes) He’s terrified of towels, the vacuum, and pretty much men in general. Yago likes to pick favorites and up until recently he hated me with a fiery passion but early in March he decided I was the best thing in the world. Unfortunately he still bites me for no reason. Just today I got a Kleenex to clean something up and he bit and drew blood from my hand. When he’s sitting on my shoulder he'll bite my ear and he hates it when I yawn. I read somewhere to ignore him when he bites, that maybe he’s just beaking, I try but I'm afraid he’s going to put a hole in my ear. (Ok that might be an over exaggeration) I thought maybe he was bored so I tried coming up with games to play and new toys. He doesn’t seem interested in anything. I love Yago dearly and I really don't want to send him to another home is there any way to make him stop biting? My whole family thanks anyone who can help!

My bird gets so ballistic when faced with a paper towel or Kleenex so I have learned to not do that. Also study up on the body language of this bird. They will give subtle indications of a bite such as raising head feathers. If you can then avoid being near at that time it would help. Go slowly as if this was a baby bird you just got. Thanks guys. I’m actually thinking he may be warming up to us. I think I may have startled him while he was sleeping on my shoulder. Mission accomplished! I just cleaned up after him and he did not attack me. It’s a win win I don’t lose a finger and he gets a sunflower seed! I’ll check out those pages.

Also, you never know what he's been thru in his previous homes. I took in an Indian Ringneck that I was told was cage aggressive, that was only one of his issues. Ive been working with him and we just take it day by day. He's making progress but it's slow. Continue to be patient with him, you did a great thing taking him in.

My conure hates it when I clean up his poop. The poop off bottle is his enemy. I have tried spraying it on the towel.....doesn't matter.......he attacks the paper towel.
Doesn't like me talking on cell phone.............hates it when I pour cream in my coffee. He attacks my arm for even thinking about it. Gives me a good little pinch on the arm after climbing down from my shoulder. Certain things just set them off. I just try not to do the things he hates when he is with me. They are picky little boogers. They want everything their own way. LOL

Sometimes Puck changes moods on a dime. I've learned to be very vigilant of his body language, otherwise I risk getting blood drawn! Puck gets all crazy-eyed, sometimes he hunches over, sometimes does a certain kind of puffing up... It took me a while to get it. Also, especially if he's perched somewhere he's fond of (i.e. shoulder) I have to approach slowly, otherwise he may attack!
