I have a habit of bringing weed seeds or roots indoors so I can sprout them for my birds (and me I also eat them: dandelion, chickweed, henbit, deadnettle, wild violet). I also eat stuff I grow or forage outdoors (not them), and I noticed a bunch of maple seeds coming up. I realized I can try those under lights for a while, until they get long enough to weave in the bars :). I'm seeing how well they grow as transplants, but also will be adding tree seeds to the things I gather when I'm stuck at a bus stop. (That's why I started this, urban foraging is risky with pollution, but taking seeds home to grow is free salad. If a species doesn't grow well to maturity in the environment I have, I harvest them young).
