Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
The little monkey and I just had a 5 and a half day beach trip. He made some new friends and I think probably made a few people's instagram vacation feed. He was willing to pose with a few kids, on their arm, and I really think he sees himself as a celebrity. LOL.
I'll post a few pics I particularly like (because of course I probably took about 100 of them but will only post a few favorites).
But first a little video clip:

A few more. The one my friend took of us napping together is kind of sweet. Whatever I do, WE do. :) my little sidekick.

GAAAAHHH!!! Oh Patti, what an awesome video clip, and the pictures rendered me speechless (and envious, too)!! :smile015: :D You all had a blast, didn't you? Thank you so much for sharing!

....got any more? :54: (You take SUCH great pictures!!!!)

PS. LOVE seeing Gil with his girl!! :D

I really should have asked a few people (who did ask me 'do you mind if he goes on my Instagram?') to send them to me as well!

Oh I did see something that kind of made me grit my teeth. A family I had noticed earlier (because the woman was in such a poor mood) came to see Gilbert with their kids. The mom said 'ugh, I HAD an African grey until I finally got rid of it. That thing just stood in a cage screaming for four solid years.'

I couldn't help thinking "maybe if he didn't stand in a cage by himself for four years, he wouldn't have been constantly screaming?!" I kind of wanted to scream 'stop the madness!' Way too many people think having a bird is like having a plant, give it food and water and enjoy looking at it. Gave me kind of a sick and sad feeling and I walked away hugging Gilbert a little more, grateful for our relationship.

Thankfully the majority of people were pleasant to talk to ! :)

Patti, I am always so thrilled when you post pictures and videos, they always make my day.
I love living vicariously through Gilbert and his travels:)
Argh, that woman who "had" the grey. Hoping he is in a wonderful, loving home now.

Gilbert got his exercise on the beach... then had a nap.

Reminds me of what I used to do with Papaya, free flying him and Sally at the local park back when it was just the two of them.

I love out and about birds. And they get so much more bonded and interactive when you do that...

It makes such a huge difference.

I had never realized that before Gilbert, but I agree! Our bond seems to get stronger with these shared experiences and his confidence increases. I wish I had done the same with Georgie.

Such beautiful pics Patti! Gilbert sure has a lot of fun! I always enjoy seeing the beautiful east coast beach too ;).

the downside is they always think they're coming with...

Love the pics. Love the video. Love the bond you and Gilbert share!

The napping photo is precious. Looks like you both had a wonderful vacation!

Gilbert got more beach time this weekend. I got a bunch of nice sunset photos of him and a few random flying pics. Thought they were good enough to share. :)

I think he had fun.

So awesome to see!!!

Thanks for sharing! It really is beautiful that you can do that with him! My little brat just won't accept his aviator harness after months of training...he will put his head in for 5 or 6 seconds then just pull out, grab his treat and that's it, thank you very much!
I'm tempted to do the dark room just put it on him thing that others on here have tried, but I just keep saying to myself to be more patient and allow him to actually accept it because I think he'll be more happy and have more fun if he's not stressed about the harness.

Thanks again for sharing!

Beautiful pictures and beautiful relationship you have with Gilbert.

I am.... floored. I'm just now seeing this thread! I've been missing out!

That video was such a joy to see! And those pictures! You are quite the photographer, Patti!

But most incredible of all is the variety of experiences that you get to share with Gilbert! It's simply amazing! The pic of you two napping together really captures it.

Thank you for sharing your and Gilbert's adventures with all of us. We're enjoying the ride.

Oh my goodness...what a TREAT!

Thank you for sharing! Gilbert is such a happy chap!

Melts my heart.

Toni

OMG I am sooo envious - what amazing pictures...So wonderful to see such a happy bird...

I have tried so many times with the harness - no joy; but these pics have inspired me to try again... patience I tell myself!
