Green cheek suddenly won't let me pet it?

I've had my green cheek for about 2 weeks now and I feel that we've established a little bit of a bond. He lets me pet him and he steps up and he loves being on my shoulder. But earlier today I had to leave home for a couple hours. I put my bird back into his cage and left for maybe 5 hours. So I come back and let him out of his cage and he of course is happy to see me (I can see this from his rapid head bobbing) so I go to put my finger out so he can stup up but as soon as he sees my hand coming towards him he bats my hand away with his wing. Why is he doing this?? He'll bat my hand with his wing and try to bite me. He has NEVER done this before. Has anyone else had an experience like this??

Birds can change on a whim. One day they will let you do anything with them and the other they won't let you touch them. I would wait a while and see if he will change. You can also try to persist in letting him pet you by giving him a treat every time you pet him. i hope that he lets you pet him soon.

that happens to me a lot. It took me a while to get to scratch Bella's head. when she feels like it she lets me pet and scratch her head when she doesnt she dodges my hand haha so i guess it just when they want you to.
