Hello from Western Australia

Hi, all hows it going?

My family and I have had a Citron cockatoo and an African grey (they now live very happily in Spain with my parents and have started speaking spanish too) as Australia doesn't allow you to bring pet birds in to Australia and WA has a ban on African Grey parrots completely, apparently they fear they may escape and out compete the local cockatoos and parrots. We have been living here for a 3 years now and finally have our own house so obviously the first thing i want to get is a new parrot to fill the feathery hole in my life...

Outside our house there are flocks of wild white and black cockatoos and lots of Galahs too.. so yesterday I want to a parrot/cockatoo specialist and put my name down for a hand reared baby Galah from this coming breeding season.

I was tempted by the black and yellow ones but they didn't seem very talkative or playful compared to the Galahs and the other white cockatoos.

The baby should be weaned on to normal food some time between November and December depending on when its hatched.. so we are all very excited and are looking for cages and toys in preparation.

Once we have more info I'll post some pictures etc...

Oh wow! We have family in WA (we're in NZ) and considered a relocation there at one point. Grey's have always been one of my 'dream' birds - wasn't aware of the ban! I knew about all the strict import/export rules but did think they were okay in captivity....crazy!

Yes was not fun... lots of crying from every one. But we facetime them regularly (some times we even talk to my parents) and the birds talk to us... my mum is teaching them spanish.

So we are very happy to be starting over again... as I’m typing there is about 200 black cockatoos flying over the house and Lorokeets are in the trees. Much more exciting than pigeons in the UK

My African Sahara was brilliant we had her from 10 weeks old and she was very tame and playful, would play fetch and swear at you if you didn’t do it right... would tell the dogs off for barking and talk constantly. I think you can have them on the east coast but here they think they would displace the galahs and black cockatoos as they eat the same food. The rainbow lorikeets invasion of WA is evidence that it can happen I guess.

Lots of people from NZ here, I work with lots, and I love the Kea from New Zealand funniest parrots ever... lots of attitude

Breeder sent a few yesterday. She is about 15 weeks old now. Will come home around 19 weeks. If she's anything like my 3 year old female galah then I'll be thrilled. I love this species. I've attached pics of both my pretty girls.

Lol yeah I'd agree, but the pukeko have my heart. Such bold colours and great foster mums too. And then there's Sirocco the Kakapo for some dirty humour....
