Help/advice please

We have her!! Shes safe! And as a paying gift from that awful shop, I was told that I could make a fortune if I bred her *sigh* (insert profanity here)

So after reading and reading and reading about what to and not to do when first bringing her home, apparently she had a completely different idea of how it was going to work. All she wanted to do was be on me. I ended up spending all evening on the couch with her on my chest on a towel. Today she has been on me or with me most of the day and has been making all sorts of coos and noises, even a hello!!

She tolerates my partner. I think with a bit of time and attention she will bond with him, he wasn't reading her properly and got a warning bite for his silliness this morning tho, lol.

Shes now eating her fruit and veggies like a champ, tho I have kept some pellet in there for her so she doesn't have too much of a shock, at the moment she is currently demolishing a big old slab of papaya :)

I've noticed some really weird behaviour tho that i can't find why that I was wondering what it was. when she is on me, she shivers, she doesn't do it in the cage or in my partner. Also she likes to slam the top of her beak against me, she has done it a few times now, just sitting on my shoulder or arm then *bonk* it sort of hurts!
The last thing she did last night when she was all settled in for sleep, she was making this sort of sucking sound or perhaps grinding her beak, is this a sign of stress?

also, I have called her chilli :)

My baby Ruby grinds her beak every night.. that's how I know she's ready for bed! definitely not a sign of stress : )

Do be careful not to give her all your attention if you can't keep it up. It's important she learns to entertain herself so she's not stressed when you're not there. Though giving her your attention while you teach her to play with toys counts toward her independance.

I sat with her on the dining table and tried to play with her toys with her today, she seemed scared so I have only put 2 in her cage at the moment, we spent ages playing with a bit of paper towel which she LOVED lol.

She's in her cage now which is in the corner of the lounge where we all are making all sorts of noises while watching us. I'll take her out less tomorrow, cos I'll be back to work on Monday, I hope she takes to the toys better tomorrow!

So we had a bit of an emergency visit to the avian vet today. I originally had her booked in for a full checkup and bloodwork in 2 weeks. but, Chilli decided It would be more fun to scare the bejeebers out of her new mum last night when I got home from work. She was making pale frothy poops, being super sleepy all the time and looking like she was having some trouble gripping the perch.

I hit panic stations, but wasn't able to get her into the vet till this morning, by that stage she was off her food, I let her nap on my chest till we were ready to go, she was having trouble staying awake.

It turns out she has a respiratory infection and a secondary yeast infection, they needed to crop feed her 20 mls and she is on a course of doxycycline, and I'm nervously awaiting blood results. Poor thing. At least she is getting the care she needs now.
