How exciting for you to be going though the "What kind of parrot will I get?" stage. I love researching and learning about different parrot species myself and I so try to go outside my comfort zone to expose myself to other possibilities of species I would never consider normally.
This is what I did when I was going though the research to find my third and final flock member. I never considered myself an amazon person. I have had mini macaws and and Eclectus parrot (he was my largest in my little flock). After I was down to just Mihijo my Noble macaw I opened my heart to another parrot the RFM. I always wanted once since I met my first one back in 1997 so it was a dream come true to finally move forward to get the elusive RFM (elusive to me because they were darn EXPENSIVE, way out of my price range) I found a breeder to make payments and when I moved forward for the plans of purchasing a RFM they are half the price they use to be and the breeder allowed me to make payments.
Now that Mihijo died and we adopted the rescue Noble Julio and I am re-entering the workforce this late fall/early winter I would like to have one more parrot for my flock. Just one more as three are my limit with what I do and how I interact with them. I know people out there can have more but three really is my limit so I was at where you are at now. What species will best fit my flock and family.
After several months of hard research and meeting a wonderful breeder out in AZ we have decided to add a Panama amazon to our flock. I would consider myself a macaw person and not an amazon person but the Panama will be the best fit for us for a LOT of reasons. I wish I could take one of the two remaining babies my breeder has of this years hatchings but I need to move Julio to a smaller cage (long story but he is not feeling secure and relaxing in current cage and I need a cage with the grate higher up than my Deltona) so I need to purchase the cage then I need to save for the Panama amazon. Yes, this baby is not cheap but I really like this breeder and want to go with this husband and wife team who have been doing this for probably around 20 years or more.
I am very excited for you. I am doing the happy dance because I know how exciting this stage is with bringing home your feathered friend. Take your time, research, maybe even try to see the interested species of parrot in person because this time you get to chose which kind of parrot is going to join your family.
I can't wait for the announcement of what species will be your next family member.
I have to include a picture of a baby Panama amazon. Look at this baby. So cute makes your eyes water.
That picture is so cute I want to do this to that baby Panama
