3 Year Old Eclectus
I'm a new Eclectus owner (adopted him a few weeks ago) and the previous owner said she would bathe him by lightly spraying him with a garden hose outside... So I've been doing the same thing but Rio doesn't like it!

How do you guys give your Ekkie a bath?

if the bird don't like it, don't do it!!! lol

i have tried alsorts with the nut, spray bottles, childs watering can and we have finally settled with her sharing my bath or showers!!!

so when you next have a bath etc take rio in with you and let him watch to begin with, nut was always interested, but very skittish about bathing, she will not get in on her own! but that is my next thing to get her to bath on her own, but she needs to be more confidant of being in the bath (she does not like the sink?)

Wow I have never thought of sharing a shower or bath. I suppose if he sees me getting soaked maybe he'd want to join in. Thanks for the reply!

lol taylor it to rio, as it took a while for nut to decide she was safe with me in the bath etc, but she really did not like the spray bottle (even when filled with warm water) so if rio does not get wet 1st, 2nd, 3rd time it's not a huge thing, the main thing is that rio starts seeing water as fun!

be prepared for rio to be scared of the sound of running water!! nut hated the sound of the shower at 1st, little introductions to anything new is good, now bath/shower time is another activity we share, she did go in bath with my man, but his got skin tags she tried removing!!! LMAO i shouldn't really laugh, but just becarefull getting naked infront of rio

do not use any soaps etc they just need wetting

haha .. Your ekkie will be excited to bath along with you ~~ ^^

I take a shower with mine. He loves it. He even knows the word "shower" and gets all excited.

I take my ekkies into the shower with me, they LOVE taking a shower!!!! Also love to be blow dry too, I took a video of us using a blow dryer on the ekkies awhile back....

I got my 3 year old second hand Eclectus a week ago. He hadn't had a bath in awhile and it was evident by his feather condition. He used to take a bath on his own, but he BFF passed away 4 months ago and that stopped. His previous owner said she tried misting him and he didn't like it so she stopped.

He was dusty, started to pluck around his legs and over preened his tail and flight feathers. So Last Wednesday, I decided to take him in the shower with me. BIG MISTAKE, he nhad a flyin duck fit, flopping around, slipped off my arm and the only thing that he was holding on to was my bracelet with his beak that was on my wrist. I tried grabbing him, but he went down in the tub, fortunately feet first.

I should have slowly introduced him to the shower thing, but turning on the water and letting him sit in the bathroom and watch me in the shower having fun before I traumatized him. Now, if he's on my arm and I'm heading to the bathroom, he starts screeching and tries climbing up my arm.

Like the old saying says, hind sight is always 20/20.

I also tried the misting bottle thing and that didn't work either. He hated it.

I have a five year old rescue and I spray him with a water bottle. I want to eventually get him in the shower. Baby steps for us!

I have a little perch that sits on the floor of the shower towards the back. When I introduced them to the water, I sat them on the perch without the water hitting them, then I slowly got the water spray closer. Now, they open their wings and flap and after I take my shower, I hold them under the water with my hand over their heads like a little umbrella.
At first they weren't sure of it, and now they argue over who gets to go.

I bet I can get all you guy's birds to like shower. Just bring them along in there with you. Make sure you talk to them while your getting them to shower. I give my ekkies bath the first day I brought them home.

I would like you to 'bird whisperer' Merlin in to taking a shower. He has his own ideas about baths of any kind. Maybe I can drop him off @ uncle mikeys for a week or so. Things have been kind of 'ripe' around here lately.

:11: awww poor merlin!! lol

Usually I fill up the bath tub with a couple inches of nice warm water. Then I place Luna inside and she will roll around in it for a few minutes. After that, I turn the shower head on and she baths in the stream.

Other times, I take her into the shower or bath with me :)

Hi there I have four ekkies I bath them 3 times a week. I have not had time to do them in the day this past week so I bathed them at night. Many people bath them in the day and could say it will make them sick if you do it at night. This argument of this will make them sick is false. I have proven these stamens to be false I am a 66 years old and my name is Joe. When I bath them at night I get a dry towel and try to dry some of the water on the feathers. In the past I have used a hairdryer and sat near a heater to keep my ekkie warm. If your going to bath them at night you need something to keep them warm. the ekkies have a very minimal chance of getting sick as they are fast dryers. Thank you:green:

garden hose....oh dear! My boy is not a huge fan of water either but he gets a bath at least 5x a week. Once he's wet he really enjoys it, its just the getting there part that is difficult. I did use the hose on him last week when I had his cage outside cleaning it, but he was on top of the cage, not in it, so it was more his choice if he got wet or not. (Not was the choice) He eventually got soaked from the overspray, but wasnt particularly pleased about it. The water temp is much cooler than he is used to.
I suspect he was disciplined in his past life with a squirt bottle..misting is torture for him. I end up terrorizing him by chasing him around the cage so that was an obvious thing to NOT do.

Like many others, I take him into the shower with me. He sits on the shower head until it's his turn and then i bring him down on my arm. Since he doesnt like spray/mist that much I either just run him through quickly to get him wet so he can enjoy it (think jumping into the swimming pool...once you're in its nice, but making the decision to jump is hard!) or I cup my hand and let the water run onto him between my fingers so its less like spray. Either way, once he's wet he relaxes into it and enjoys the bath. I make sure to keep his head as dry as possible so he wont have issues with water up his nose or in his ears. If he wants his head wet its up to him to do that. The kitchen sink bath "should" be the same, but its not. He is more resistant to it, but is learning that its not evil. If he knows its coming I end up chasing him around the floor (i generally lose that game once he makes it under the table and chairs). Either method I cover him with a lightweight kitchen towel to keep him warm immediately after the bath, and to soak up a bit of the water. If its chilly I use the blow dryer on a low setting until the feathers start to fluff a bit--not completely dry, that defeats the purpose of bathing. He LOVES the blow dryer. BTW, he's a plucker so he only has a down coat---your process may differ.
