I lost maggie tonight!!

From what Im gathering here is that you think a Rescue got Maggie and the lady who runs the rescue isnt cooperating with you...am I right...if so this is terrible...her top priority should be to help Maggie get home to her own home and her own people not to a strange home and strange people. On the plus side of this ordeal is a good feeling that if indeed Maggie did end up with this lady then the route you are taking now through the breeders making enquiries as to who may have got a macaw from her recently could very well be the path that leads you to Maggie and her safe return home...Best of Luck with the search

There are many greedy people, unfortunately. If this is all the case. The "rescue" woman got money she doesn't want to loose. She is not going to say who she sold the bird to (hope it's not Maggie) because that will lead to her returning the money (through legal actions if needed).
How do people become so low, beats me. It's always "good" vs "evil".
I just want to fly to TX and talk to this "rescue" so bad.

I don't know much about the law. But isn't Maggie considered property? Taking into consideration, how much a GW Macaw cost, would that be considered grand theft? If the police, were involved, with the email she sent your daughter, wouldn't she have to tell them who she sold it to, or face being arrested?

My thoughts also went to legal action. She had in her possession something that belongs to you and she sold it (with knowledge that it was not hers to sell). I don't mean to make Maggie sound like a thing, instead of the lovely companion she is, but when you bring it down to those terms, this is clearly a case of her selling stolen property, which is a crime. Perhaps if you know someone who can pull of some acting, you can send a 'detective', to go question her about this criminal investigation. They can offer leniency to anyone that can provide details leading to Maggie's location. She will get scared and cave and give up the name of the breeder she sold Maggie to. Then you can sic the real police on her.

If this is all the case....I was just wondering if we all can write a petition for a local Police to get involved.
The local NEWS were involved already, just THAT alone should help.

Mark, my head exploded after reading her malicious and vindictive email.

There has to be some sort of trail from that wretched and feeble excuse for a human to potential breeders. Either voluntary or by searching for potential buyers.

Unless she is for some reason vindictive, why wouldn't she seek indemnification for her "profit" in exchange for giving you the information? Would she not be amenable to having Maggie "repurchased?"

If she really had/has Maggie, there must be some way to appeal to her malevolent $elf intere$t.

Yes! While I really hate to reward her in anyway she does sound like her greed her selfishness might lead to a quicker path to getting Maggie back. The end result is getting Maggie back after all and this might be another avenue. Yes law-enforcement and detective work is another option but I think if she indeed does have a lead on Maggie's whereabouts the appeal of making more money out of the situation might sway her. Sort of a "finders fee" for telling who she was sold to. Again, I hate to say it and I don't think she deserves anything but I am sure we all want Maggie back sooner rather than later. Still shaking my head at her "sensitive" email:(

I've written and deleted so many comments. Some would've gotten me banned for sure.

Mark, I can't possibly know what you and your family are going through and sweet Maggie. I only pray that this story comes to a happy ending for you guys. and a satisfying conclusion for the villain.

So, not to state obvious actions you've already taken, but is there a comprehensive list of macaw breeders in and around your area that you're contacting. Does the vet possibly know who she may have sold her to? and finally maybe contact all the vets and let them know that Maggie might be visiting one of them since the "breeder" might have her checked out before introducing her to their flock.

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this.

When this is all said and done (and I say that still assuming and confident Maggie gets back to her family) this woman needs to be completely exposed via every means necessary. Wasting effort to do that now is counter productive to getting Maggie back, but once she is back, this woman needs a good old fashion shunning.

I know we've spoken, Mark, but let me reiterate this woman has committed a SERIOUS crime. Please file a police report and they WILL investigate her to find out where the bird went.

What she did is sold FOUND property - not stolen property. This is also a crime here in GA.

I am a former law enforcement officer. Most are animal lovers and also the value of a Greenwing might make this a felony - a valuable arrest for any jurisdiction.

Follow both leads. My sincere hope is the vet call was Maggie - a much better chance she has been treated well.

All our love to you and your daughter.

So like all miscreants, she unknowingly gave up some information while assuming to be diabolical.
she said she sold her to a breeder in Georgetown. I did some research and found this. No street address unfortunately but there is a number

I tried that.

She has "trust issues" i.e. you're not going to pay me once I tell you where the bird is... Nothing I could do could change her mind.

Oooohhh... believe me you don't have to tell me that twice!

Essentially, the breeders in the area are already doing this behind the scenes. She's already done. It's a very small tight knit community... and I know the major players. She's a complete Pariah now. She couldn't sell a hyacinth for a quarter now..

Could some pressure be put on the vet who handed Maggie over to the rescue...I dont understand why the vet didnt contact you instead of sending Maggie to this rescue...surely he scanned her chip...if so why did he not phone the owner directly. Could pressure be put on him/her so that in turn this vet might put pressure on this rescue lady to give the info regarding Maggies present location...just a thought in case you hadnt already thought of going this route ...hope you get good news soon .... praying for Maggies safe return

I've contacted them.

Thank you so much!

I don't know all the facts, but it sounds like should have a case that can be filed with law enforcement. Go to the station and talk to the precinct captain.

That isn't what happened... that's my imagination running amuck...

The vet got a call about a big red bird that landed in someone's yard that just waddled up to them... and the person wanted to know IF anyone had reported a lost bird recently because they wanted to find the owner...

WELL... the person who took that call, DIDN'T FRIGGIN LOOK, and told them they don't do birds there... even though I contacted them the first day... AND WHAT HURTS IS SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN HOME LAST NIGHT, INSTEAD OF STILL WONDERING WILL THESE PEOPLE FIND ME AND GIVE HER BACK...

In the meantime, the "rescue" lady aggressively goes after any and all reports of people finding expensive birds... (so she can flip them for drug money!) SO I AM CLIMBING THE WALLS AND JUMP OUT OF MY SKIN EVERY TIME THE PHONE RINGS - AGAIN...

I'm not a lawyer (nor did I stay in a Holiday Express last night) but wonder if there are attorneys with local expertise who might be willing to give some pro bono assistance? My hunch is the animal "property" rights laws in Texas are woefully dated - as they are in most states.

It would seem an "economic sanctions" stance towards the breeder/flipper with potential knowledge would be a great stranglehold. But one must use caution and understand the law to avoid her springing a nasty trap.

The "trust issue" she bellows is all one really needs to know about her character.

.

Must be some older people without the internet or something.....!!!????
Couldn't they just go to Craigslist??????
How frustrating! With all the effort to do everything possible for people to be able to see Maggie on WWW, just a phone call to the vet????!!!!!!

Law enforcement is your best bet. An attorney can't do much as she has committed a CRIME. A civil suit could take place afterwards but really, this girl should be put in jail.
