I lost maggie tonight!!

What made you think the bird the vet has is Maggie? Did the vet call you personally or how'd you find out?
I think I've missed something... (i've read from a few pages back from where I left off yesterday)

The vet doesn't have her.

Someone in the same area where Maggie was lost reported finding a big red bird that just landed in their yard that just waddled up to them... and wanted to know if anyone had reported losing a "big red bird." They're trying to find the owner... (THAT'S THE GOOD NEWS. BEST NEWS YET, I THINK!)

The vet is located near the duck pond area where she was lost. SAME ZIP CODE, BOARDERS THE SAME BASIC ROADWAY. So, that makes it twice as plausible.

How many lost big red birds can there be in San Antonio?!

Best lead I've had yet!

BUT... WE DIDN'T GET A NAME OR NUMBER.

Sorry! We'll let you know if they call back.

Why would they call back if you already told them no one was looking for her?!

I mean if they had just gotten a name and a number, she would have been home Saturday night.

Now, we're still up in the air as to whether or not they find me.

GGGGGGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!

We are so close, and yet still a mile away... And this is just so frustrating.

Wow... I really do hope you get her back soon!
Does the vet not have caller ID?
How's your daughter dealing with all this as well?

She was a complete basket case when that B---- told her "Your bird is going to be bred to death."

She's better now. We're both super bonded to Maggie, and devastated that she's still missing.

Someone IS looking for us. THEY HAVE found her... after everything that I've done, WHY HAVEN'T THEY FOUND ME YET?!

not sure how things in the states works, but is there any way the phone company can assist if you give them date and aproximate time of day of the call the vet received? Possible call records from their side?

Mom to charlie and milo

there has to be, and that's what i'm trying to get my hands on...

One friggin' correct phone call and she's home...

Not to put a damper on anything but after spending the last 2 hours on 911parrots WHEW. You have to realize a lot of people are just not " parrot smart " for lack of a better term.

There was a " Parrot found " North of you Mark . Anyway I check them all. THAT Is the information the person gave. I found a parrot contact me if it is yours. People were asking What kind. Well the average NON Parrot person Does not know so to keep from looking stupid they shut up ............ I posted and asked what color. THAT got a reply. Green Tail about 4 inches long with a gray head .

SO it maybe the person that has Maggie has no flipping clue what she is OR that a Parrot forum even exist. SO the flyers are the best bet. Grocery Store . Gas station. Any type of public posting . College

My 2 cents worth anyway :(

Yeah.

I think my vet has that one now. It's a quaker.

you may have already done this but you can get a bunch printed at a copy shop and have them machine cut for you into 4s. I would hit up any full parking lots and stick them in the wipers. malls maybe?
also you can leave them at checkout counters, pet shops, vets... Maybe something right in front of people could be a touch more useful.
Hope it's ok, I used Wendy's flyer to make this. if you want one in color, let me know. actually I'll just make one in color just in case.

edit: Here you go

Wooow, I can't even state my opinion without getting banned from here, so I won't, but wow...

There's this thing I heard people do in the UK, they teach their birds their phone numbers and/or addresses so if they get lost they will hopefully say one of the two or both, and the ones that found the bird could just call the owner up.
No idea what the success rate of this is, but it's a pretty neat idea.

Has this changed your mind about freeflying?

That does sound like a great idea! Unfortunately, my birds stop speaking up the instant anyone new and unfamiliar comes around. Smh.

As for free flying again, Mark already said he wouldn't be doing that anymore earlier in this thread.

Good news. The vet has agreed to contact the phone provider and get me the call logs for Saturday.

WHAT SEEMS TO ME TO BE A GOOD IDEA IS SOME SORT OF AN AFTER MARKET OPEN BAND THAT HAS AN ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER ON IT.

And that is entirely correct. I stopped freeflying for the longest time, for fear of something like this... and now I regret ever going back to it...

My free flighted birds love it, but that hardly seems worth it to me now...

I've done a fair amount of kicking myself...

That is fantastic news! I believe Maggie will be home soon. Going to bed now, but believe me this will be the first thing I will check when my alarm goes off tomorrow morning! Can not wait for the happy news that Maggie is home!

Well, it also comes down to how quickly will the vet follows through... and by the time they do, will they still have her....

Sorry that was a week ago... we did XYZ with her.

All it takes is the vet calling. I'm sure he could do that immediately with supervision if needed. My vet wouldn't hesitate. Even if he didn't specialize in that animal. He would have requested contact info, checked the log and even proactively offered to examine/scan the animal. The vet you're dealing with just doesn't seem to care. Although, my vet has offered to personally board Phoebe at his house if I ever needed to board her.

It was a receptionist that took the call, and she was apparently confused by the call.

When the vet found out about it, she called me and apologized but that was several hours later. She was in surgery when I went there to try and explain what I wanted them to do. I finally got ahold of her personally today...

Ok, still odd. And while not helpful to you now I certainly hope she has learned better for the future. Fingers crossed this is what brings her home and that they still have her.

Hopefully the vet's regret over not contacting you right away will encourage her to get you the log info quickly. With current technology it should be retrievable in minutes.

Mark, I hope you informed all the breeders in the area not to buy any Greenwings unless they talk to you first.
So, is the "flipper/rescue" woman out of the picture, I hope?

Am praying this leads to Maggies safe return.

She's done.

And yeah, pretty much everyone knows I'm looking for my greenwing.
