Does anyone know if there's a way to insure the value of a bird? On an emotional level, I know that there is no replacing a feathered baby. However, I've had a few people by my house that have shown more than a passing interest in my Rose. I'm wondering if there's a way to insure her in the event of a theft?

A large overprotective dog and a sign on the door that says "Never mind the dog, beware of owner" with a picture of a gun.

Oh, we have all that except the sign! Lol

A burglar stupid enough to walk into my house isn't going to walk out again. Jack will have him for a snack.

I don't know if a homeowners insurance policy can allow for a "rider" for the theft of a pet. As you posted, the emotional loss and uncertainty runs far deeper than the $$ value.

My home is always protected by the best burglar alarm: dogs. I have three, and they will bark when folks get close.

I have dogs that look and sound scary; a burglar alarm; and monitored cameras (with signs stating all three). I have a wonderful neighbor that txts me if anything at all looks unusual, both when I'm home and when I am not. I live in a small town and when we moved in, I invited the police in for cookies and to meet the birds (so they'd know where they were in the event of a fire or something).

With all that, if my birds were stolen, I wouldn't be able to buy new ones anyway. My health insurance would cover my mental state at that point, which would be pretty bad and expensive.

I can't even imagine loosing Amy or Jonesy by someone stealing them!

I too, have great neighbors, and we look out for each other's well being.

I do remember however..that a number of years ago, someone walked into the local Pet Smart and casually walked out with a very young M2! What kuutspa that so-and-so had!

If memory serves me right,he/she were never caught either!

We have an alarm, cameras, two dogs, ad's the birds shriek. Homeowner's insurance doesn't cover her. I was hoping that there was something more out there.

I'm a fan of good old fashion bars on the windows when you live in an area your afraid of theft. They even have some pretty, decorative designs that hardly look like a security measure these days. Our last apartments were so easy to break into. I did so on many occasions in which I locked myself out (and a few times for neighbors who locked themselves out, it's a good thing I'm a good person or I might make a good burglar lol). I *wish* they would've had the bars on the windows, but we had enough nosy neighbors with no jobs who were outside all day smoking, all of whom *adored* Kiwi. Easy to break into or not, no one could have made off with him (provided they could have even gotten a hold of him).
