I was looking for....indoor trees, thinking I could get a real life tree for my girls.

the jade tree looked the most climbable from... https://www.thespruce.com/best-indoor-trees-4148340 entry #9

I asked the google guy if it was safe and found it in column 2 of this post... https://www.plannedparrothood.com/plants.html

Since that is some inferior website I was wondering if there is any corroborating information.

this yielded no results...

http://www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/449-toxic-list-our-birds.html

This page has a post from weco (6 down) saying it's ok but it was gathered from "other sources"...

http://www.parrotforums.com/parrot-...afe-fresh-foods-toxic-food-lists-sprouts.html

is there a definitive answer? I'm 99% sure; yes it's safe but....I'd like to know if anyone knows for sure.

thank you to anyone who has any definitive answer...

clark and zod.......and Justin

ps I guess I'm asking does anyone also own one and know for sure....

Ha, funny - enjoy your day off. I don't have a jade tree to confirm this for you.

Two websites I found that seem to agree Crassula ovata is OK:

https://brainybirds.co.za/safe-plants-and-flowers-for-you-feathered-friends/

https://homeguides.sfgate.com/safe-houseplants-parrots-96662.html

where as this one says that since it's mildly emetic to dogs and cats, but has an unknown toxicity to birds:

https://safeforparrots.com/is-it-safe/

Not any one of those three websites seems particularly 'modern' or authoritative, so take it all into reasonable consideration. I'd guess them to be fine. Succulents are generally not injurious to herbivores of any sorts, and the Jade plant is a kind of that type.

thank you dhraiden ....

I kinda wanna indoor tree for them so any info is greatly appreciated.

I just added reputation (scale) points for your research... enjoy.

Does your "jade tree" also has an official (latin) name?

because that will point you in the right direction sooo much faster and more reliable :)
(some plantfamilies are all toxic, so that narrows down the options)

Bottlebrush tree, shrub, is safe as far as I know. Enjoy your humor. ;)
Jade tree no idea????
Citrus tree safe I think to, but the have spikes so I never use.

I'd be concerned about what you grow it in (if/when you verify that the plant itself is safe).

Succelents and succulent-like plants are usualy a very bad idea, because of the sap.

If there is no animal eating the leaves or stems that is a hint as well...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crassula_ovata probably that one?
(You could do this kind of thing yourself you know ;) )

this one is even toxic to humans - so I would not risk it
--> http://pistilsnursery.com/poisonous-houseplants/

--> https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants/jade-plant

So unless you want your animals "pining for the fjords" keep them away from those.

alternative:
go to a BD-treefarm and buy a small apple or pear tree?

I just saw this post, I missed it yesterday...I'm a HUGE succulent fan (too bad I live in Pennsylvania, lol), I have all the cold-hardy succulents I could possibly find planted outside in my yard (most of these are extremely boring, like Chicks and Hens, Jovibara, certain Cacti, etc.), and I have a ton of the warm-weather succulents all over my house.

Most Jade plants/trees are in the Crassula family, some are not, but there are a ton of different Jade trees and plants. Some are cold-hardy, some aren't, some are micro-Jades and some are HUGE...I have had a medium-sized Jade plant/tree sitting in my bay-window for at least 3-4 years now...The birds don't go anywhere near it, which I'm happy about..

Here's the thing: No succulent plant/Cactus is really "safe" for birds to eat because they all store water inside of their leaves, and the water turns into a thick "sap"...The thing is, most of them are not actually toxic/poisonous to birds, but they make them very nauseous and cause vomiting...As already mentioned, there is a very good reason why people who live in warm climates and have succulents planted in their yards don't have a problem with the birds or any other wildlife eating them...It's because they make them sick....Try drinking more than one of those Aloe drinks and see what happens to you, lol...

***Here's the other thing that you'll find out almost immediately if you bring any type of succulent plant or tree in your house and allow your birds to sit in it/play with it, etc....It's going to die. Quickly. But not before every single leaf is shaken/falls off of the tree...That Jade tree in the photo you linked will last all of 10 minutes with your birds landing on it/climbing on it before it would be totally bare, lol...The leaves on most-all succulents are extremely fragile and fall off just by being touched because they are heavy due to the water inside of them, and just bumping them lightly results in them losing tons of leaves...So I would imagine that 2 Green Cheeks flying and landing on that Jade tree, climbing on it, etc. would result in a totally bare Jade tree with not one leaf remaining on it after one day in your house...Then it will die.

So just simply because they are all so delicate, I'd stay away from any type of succulent trees or plants for your bird, not so much because they are poisonous or toxic to your birds, but because they are all very, very fragile and not at all going to withstand birds landing and climbing on them. I am constantly picking up dead leaves from my succulent plants all over the house because every time they get bumped by me or one of the dogs or a bird they drop a ton of them, and every time I move them they lose a bunch...and Jades in-particular lose their leaves constantly with any movement at all, because their leaves contain so much liquid and are just so heavy...

How did I know...EllenD would have a page long breakdown of everything......lol

Thanks EllenD I'll forgo a tree for now....you were exactly what I wanted; an honest evaluation.

Well, just from my own frustrating experiences with succulents, especially Jades, if you even bump them they drop what seems like dozens of leaves. So I can just see you moving a big, beautiful Jade tree into your house, and you introducing your two Green Cheeks to it, and then you walk away for 5 minutes, come back, and find that it doesn't have a single leaf left on it, lol...
