What's interesting is that all daughters of a female Ino bird will also be Ino birds because the only X she has to give has the Ino gene. The female determines the sex of the babies.
People who know basic genetics know that in humans and other mammals males are XY and females are XX. In birds it's reversed- females are XY and males are XX. It takes a while for this to sink in. This reversal reminds me of how I had trouble for years remembering that West is toward the ocean in LA. I grew up on the east coast where East is toward the ocean. After I moved to LA It took years for this to sink into the part of my brain that stores my local geography.
