Featherbrain. I can not imagine how you must be feeling. Not only sick but feeling guilty about Faust. Did you ever consider Faust could be a therapy bird? I have a 19 month old U2 that has regressed twice. I suffer from debilitating migraines at least 3 times a week. Those days Mina just has to have cage time. I put my iPad in there and let her watch movies. If they have a big wonderful cage full of those expensive toys we buy them I don't think it hurts them to be in there sometimes. I just make it up to her the next day. We something special. Play her favorite game or something. I think you are incredibly brave, with a wonderful future I think Faust would be more ok with it than you think.
