Hello, my birdie has been loosing feathers this week and now started feeling bad. She crosses her wings in a strange manner, is exhausted, moves strangely and is shaking. Most of the time she is sitting in strange places or on me when outside the cage, when in cage she goes down to the bottom and after some time starts irrationally running or flying. She should be about 5 months. Couple days prior she was having diarrhea but all seemed to be fine by yesterday. What is the problem and what should I do? Thanks

Has she been eating and drinking normally? Is her tail bobbing up and down heavily when she breathes even if she hasn't recently exerted herself?

I would get her to an avian vet ASAP. Going more than 24 hours without food is very dangerous for a parrot.

She doesn’t eat, she did drink a bit when I brought water closer to her. Tail is bobbing and she is shaking

Now she is acting very weird, she is running into corners or hiding in strange places, although she wasn’t scared of me or anything else

Sounds like it may be an upper respiratory infection, also from the way her wings are drooping it seems even more likely. Keep her warm and give her millet, see if she'll eat that, until you can get an appointment with a vet.

Okay, thank you. It is now 1am in my country and there are no avians in my city, closest one is about 2 hours away.

This is a very sick burd. You have to get her to an avian veterinarian tomorrow , to get the right medicine to save her. Even in the United States we often have to drive a couple if hours fir an avian veterinarian.

Please keep her in the Cage till then to save her strength. Keep her warm and quiet on the way to the vet. Put a towel on the bottom of the cage, place a very shallow dish of water abd food near her, offer all her favorite especially a millet spray.
You have a very sick bird. And you will need a veterinarian help to save her. Unfortunately diarrhea is very serious in birds, and by the time they show you they are sick its very serious. They will try and keep hidden that they are sick.

My thread when I had a sick one

Will visit vet, I hope she survives about 8 more hours till it opens because she looks terrible right now

My thread when I had a sick one
I have a dilemma right now, should I try to feed her through syringe with rice or should I let her rest? She was very aggressive and bit me to blood although she didn’t bite me ever before. Now I left her in a dark room so she might get some sleep in a warm room

It would probably be best to leave her alone to conserve her energy as much as possible I would think.

Do not feed her rice. Let her rest.
What is her normal diet?
Rice can be dangerous as it grows bacteria quickly. Even in the refrigerator. Only feed rice if its fresh cooked. But really its not a good staple in a diet, not much nutrition. A good diet of seed mix and lots of fresh veggies and leafy greens , or pellets , seed mix and healthy veggies. A seed only diet doesn't get them the nutrients they need. In a seed only diet they will have low vitamin A levels which causes respiratory issues. A good source of vitamin A is peppers, even dried peppers. Most parrots like peppers, like bell, and red chili pepper, and others. Romaine lettuce also has vitamin A, and cooked carrots and cooked sweet potatoes are a good source too.

Baby burd formula is a complete nutrition, that can be feed as supplement if not eating . But it needs to be a professional formula manufactured to hand raised baby birds. Or taking a high quality parrot pellet and add a little water and mashed cooked sweet potatoes and make a paste could work in a pinch. But I would not force anything tonight at all. Sick burds need their rest. And I'd let her eat in on own tomorrow if she will. It is ok . Offer her all the stuff she normally eats, especially millet as that's easy to eat and most will.

Birds hide their illness. So when it is apparent, it is very serious. The reason she try to hide in dark places is to get rest in undisturbed warm corners.

If she doesn't eat any food, not even her favorite food, prepare a warm water add some honey for her to drink. It is crucial that she has strength to keep herself warm.

During traveling, she may feel cold. We must be equipped to keep her warm and dark. My relative lost her bird to cold air conditioning in her car. So, I recommend keeping her in the dark, small, closed warm space.

....small cage
...a hot water bottle
...cover with dark cloth
....no perch in side
...favorite soft toy to snuggle

When you meet the reception, be sure to explain that this is an emergency. She already stop eating for days, so that you can be rush through.

Prepare things to tell your vet...
the order of
the development
of her symptoms

This site is NOT for medical information. Your bird is VERY SICK, GET IT TO AN AVIAN VET IMMEDIATELY!
