I apologize for the long post but this is importantā¦to me. I have contacted an Admin to make sure this post is allowed and he approved.
This is an odd request but have no other choice but to ask a favor.
I am 70 years old and have a GCC Pineapple named Buddy. I live alone and he is a great companion. He is now 8 years old and hopefully he will live for a long long time.
When you reach my age, you realllly begin to look at your age and longevity and realize that things may get tougher as life goes on.
What bothers me is not so much MY life, but his. We all know the bonds between humans and animals. Weāve seen the videos of how an animal is reunited with an owner they havenāt seen in days, weeks or months. They remember you and miss you when youāre gone.
My Buddy is no different. He cries out for me when I leave the house or even just the living room. When I come home from running errands, he runs around his cage chirping like a dog that greets you when you come home.
Since I live alone I am always concerned if something happens to me who will take care of Buddy? I live in a rural area in upstate NY (near Binghamton) and only have a couple neighbors. If something happens to me like a hospital stay, I hopefully could rely on them to feed/water Buddy till I got back.
Unfortunately any family members live over 3 hours away so they arenāt able to help.
But Iām concerned about if the inevitable happens. That I canāt return due to major major health problems or even death. Whoās going to take care of Buddy? Any family members I speak of either have cats or dog(s) and they probably wouldnāt be able, or want to, take care of him and end up giving him to a shelter. That thought terrifies me. I have been to a couple shelters and although the birds were well taken care of, it is not a home and they are probably terrified. Again, that thought is extremely worrisome to me.
So, I am reaching out to any of the members here that would be willing to take in my Buddy if the need arises? I realize what an imposition this may be, but Iād feel more comfortable knowing that he would be taken care of (properly) by another bird lover. Obviously youād be welcomed to all cages, toys, play gyms, etc that youād want. Your decision.
If the unfortunate does happen, I would leave written instructions so this member would be contacted.
Hopefully Buddy and I will live together for many more years but you never know.
