Any female you may pick may not bond with your bird and notice I said your bird. They really like to pick their own mates as we do. He has chosen your wife. You cannot accurately sex a bird by its actions, the DNA test is the best.

You are exactly right, and I am only assuming it's a male. I feel bad that he doesn't like to interact with me anymore as we were friend the first 3 days...So I will be patient and respect his choice and slowly gain his friendship back hopefully.

lmao welcome to the wonderful world of senegals :p

you've enjoyed a short hunnymoon period with him so to speak, but they really don't like to be told off! you'll find gaining his friendship back easy lol given a few months if his like my nut :54: it might sound slow, but remember these birds will live up to 30 lol

handy tips, they canbe very terratorial over there chosen person, so if his on your wife, i suggest she takes him off, if you do, it'll just make him more determined to stay on her and/or determined to bite you! and when he becomes flighted, they do fly over and attack!

she should take him off as soon as he starts un-wanted attention, this way when he is grown, he will understand its not acceptable behaviour, she should not let him continue even if it looks cute! just imagine all that flirting and no release?? so to speak, he could start biting your wife as well, as nut often bites my man, and he is her fav person!

i like the laid back approach to makin friends with an aggressive sene, cos i don't like gettin bit! so any treats make him come to you! i've a feeling there'll be a few more bitings to come, just relax, do not take it personal! as nut use to bait me often, look all cute, wonder across for the treat an then zap with her beak! infact she use to call me over to give her a head scratch and when i went over, zap again mid scratch lol

so don't push making friends, and don't be overly affectionate with the missues infront of him

senes maybe all of 9inches at a stretch, but they pack personality, so its important you encourage it to accept you both, even though he will treat you's differently and do different things for either of you

peckin order in nuts head for ppl that share her house :p

the man her fav person, he comes home and she is on his shoulder and that is final! have to nip him, to take his attention of the dam tv thing! but does have nice chew things on his clothing, not sure about the hairs on his chest, but it does sound funny when i pluck one!

the woman, mear company for when my mans at work, the cleaner an provider of head scratches, don't bite this one much as last time she ate my treat! and makes squeely noises, gets in a huff and iggies me!

the boy, unsure, but funny to chew at times and will play with every now and again, still has 10 toes but currently workin on that

keep coming back to the forum lol

@suebee:

Thanks again for all the advice!....much appreciated. I have been hand feeding "Sonny" sunflower seeds and he is enjoying that. I haven't tried to pick him up today as I think I should wait a few to let him get more comfortable with me...Although my wife did set him on my shoulder for a bit, but I let her take him off...I can't take another bite just yet...it HURTS!...lol...but I love him anyways....

UPDATE: Re: New Member please assist

UPDATE:
We have located the owners of this beautiful Senegal!...My wife is pretty bummed that she has to give him up, since she has bonded very well with him but at the same time happy that he can get back to his rightful owners....I guess we kind of experienced a "try before you buy" parrot!...lol..We definitely want to purchase one or possibly 2...The time we spent with this awesome creature was a blessing!

Thanks Parrot Forum for ALL the help, advice, and knowledge that you gave! Much appreciated! I will continue to be a member here, and hopefully will have a parrot of my own soon! :D

Did they seem like good folks at least? Was the bird excited to see them? I brought a dog back to her owner once. She was NOT excited to see him nor did she wants to leave my lap. I found her roaming the roads....

Actually we will be meeting up with them when I get out of work....It was a hispanic lady that was very excited over the phone that we found her bird, describing him to a T...even that he will bite if you go near the fridge...(which I learned the hard way!)....I will post a follow up after my meeting with the owners....

Yay! Owners found! Can't wait to hear what happens at meet up! Rescues are always a great route but remember it may take some time to rehabilitate them. If your going the rescue route apply to foster and tell them your preference and then if you and the bird match up then you can apply to adopt that bird. Works amazing that way. Then if it doesn't work you help save a birds life! =D

Ok...she came and got her bird, which name is "birdy"...(very original..I liked Sonny better)....very nice lady who has had him since he was one, and he is 5 now.
She brought a picture of him as well to assure us he was hers. Also gave us 40 dollars which we tried to not take.....
My wife was sad because he was still trying to jump to her from the owners hands, so she was crying. They really had quite the relationship in such a short time...amazing birds!
Once the owner held him for a sec, he started to "kiss" her and was talking in slight excitement so it's nice to know he is in a loving home.
Apparently they don't clip his wings nor tail and say that he still does not fly..says he never learned too..??...The father in-law had the doors open while vacuuming and out Birdy/Sonny went!....
All-in-all it was a great experience and I cannot wait to get one for my own! :D

Awesome! Glad that the owner turned out to be a good owner. Your wife will find another who will bond with her tell her not to worry. I really recommend fostering for a rescue and finding which bonds with you and your wife. =D Best of Luck!
