Hello everyone!

So about 3 weeks ago I adopted a Green Cheek Conure. And "He" is amazing majority of the time. He has gotten to love me so far not liking anyone to get him out of his cage nor will he listen to anyone else. But one this is making be go ummm what are you doing. For the last couple of days when I go to his cage sometime he seems to be throwing a temper tantrum.

Description of what he does:

He will start squawking or screaming walking back and forth, moving his head back and forth in all directions then tucks his head underneath him. When you try to go near him or his cage he will charge a little bit them go back to his little hiding spot (a sleeping tent).

He has never done this before. He usually comes to the door when I open it and steps up on to my finger with out me even asking anymore.

Why is he doing this? Is this is a sign that he is tired and want to go to sleep? He usually does this in early evening. He is usually always out of his cage with me on his play gym or on my shoulder.

I need help please.

Thanks so much!

Hello Kedika and welcome to the forum. :)

I'm personally not experienced with Green Cheek Conures, but hope a fellow bird lover will be able to figure out what your baby is doing.

My GCC get's real cranky when she's up to late. She will bite and scream and attack anyone except me. So I just put her to bed when she get's like this.

I have two GCC's and would love to help but happily I've never encountered this or any big problems with them.

How much sleep, or at least, how much 'dark and quiet' time is he getting?

I usually put buddy in his cage around 8pm or 9pm and cover him up until he starts screaming to let us know he is away and that usually around 7am

It must be a green-cheek thing, because mine starts fussing around 9pm also, but once I cover her she calms. My other birds don't do that.
