I'm sorry that happened, but you got lucky this time...This isn't something that will show-up later on, if and when it happens your bird will just drop over dead DURING the cooking. And as already stated, there's absolutely nothing you can do to save your bird, it's instantly fatal.
Please tell your boyfriend that "closing the door" does not stop the toxic fumes from killing the bird. I read a story once where a couple with many parrots lost them all due to a heater they didn't know was coated with Teflon, which was located in their living room. The birds they had all over the house, including even the basement all died instantly. So he simply cannot do that anymore with the bird in the house. The only way to use Teflon pans safely is to remove the bird from the house and put them outside while cooking/baking and then for a good few hours afterwards just to make sure that all of the toxic fumes have dissipated. It's much easier to just go and buy some ceramic non-stick pots and pans...Go to Ross's or TJ Maxx, they have a ton of high-end ceramic non-stick sets that are cheap. Nothing with the black non-stick coating on them.
I too would give the boyfriend a good whack with said pan over the head, then be sure to pitch the pan.
