Fargo has had his harness since february, for a while we just did walks and spent time outside..

Then i think in July we got the flight leash, so we started flying..

End of july beginning of august (i cant remember) the flight line snapped, Fargo got stuck up a tree.. and since then, we didn't do anymore flying..

We just spent time outside each day on the harness!

WELL, today i thought i better get the courage and start taking him out flying again...

If anyone remembers, Fargo flew to his perch on command perfectly.. But i could NEVER get him to fly to me? He would just sit there waiting..

He has perfect recall inside, but outside he didn't want to move

Today, Fargo finalllyyyyyy learnt to fly to me... It is AWESOME!!

As soon as i hold my arm up and say- come- he flies straight to me!

No idea what suddenly made him figure out how to fly haha

But it is sooo cool..

So now i feel much safer taking him outside considering he is learning to fly back to me..

Will keep getting the distance further each day.. and maybe one day he will be free flighted haha

Here are some pics of him flying to me! These are screenshot out of the video.. Will upload the video tonight!

Then he had a shower outside, which is also finally starting to like!

Then just some cute ones inside

Picture i took the other day- You can see he is missing a few flight feathers haha

and what he does to get attention hahaha

Absolutely fantastic!! What a feeling he must have to be actually flying outside! I'm looking at your pictures and admiring the sun shining, we are in the midst of an nasty ice storm with ice coating everything. I've never even considered allowing my birds to fly outside on a harness - I haven't even researched them and have no idea if there are parrotlet and lovebird sized ones that I would trust to not snap. You must of been so relieved he didn't fly away when your line did snap. I do wheel mine outside (when weather permits - maybe 5 months out of the year) to get some fresh air and sunshine. It's terrific he is flying to you as well. Good luck with that.

wow, that is super news Tab!
you sure are courageous, and well done Fargo!!

maybe he was just a bit too young before to understand?....gosh I have no idea, it doesn't really matter, now he's being his usual perfect self.

Thank you :D

Yes for the first few months on his harness he was sooo clingy, he was petrified of being outside, first time in his life he had been out.

Then when we got the flight line he didn't enjoy flying really, and he would just fly straight and then land..

After a few times he was doing circles and zig zagging around.. and you could see he was loving it!

Then the line snapped.. He flew to the nearest tree and sat perfectly still for 45 minutes until i got him down :o haha

So it is good that he gets to fly again, and just thrilled he has learnt to fly to me.. Just means we can do sooo much more outside now! :)

I think you can get the lovebird/parrotlet size harnesses ;) haha

Ohhh i would trade the cool weather for our australian summer anytime! :(

Thank you!! :)

Hahahaha after the line snapped i thought i would never have the courage to take him flying again

Well when he first went outside he was just a year old.. Then when he was flying outside he was about 18 months?

And now he is almost 2 years old! So maybe he has finally thinks he is a big boy :09:

thats great! i am in a similar situation. Cooper goes to his perch perfectly, but wont recall. haha.

Hahaha aw really!!! Silly birds!

Just wait, one day he will randomly start flying to you perfectly ;)

lol Rosie also does that, she flies away awesome, but she will not fly back. She will recall two ways, if she's desperate to get to me or if another human is holding her. But if she's just on a perch, and I'm trying to call and call and call her to come to me she just sits there XD

Oh my gosh thats so amazing so happy for you congrats!!! And great pics he looks so happy!

Way to go Fargo!!! Yay!!! :)

AWESOME, Tab!!!!! :D I'm all smiles here!!!!

Fargo is SUCH a super clever AND lovable guy!!!

Brilliant news. Aww I'm so pleased Fargos flying again ;)

I want you to come to England an help me with a VERY stubborn amazon haha!! She thinks she's a statue!!!

Hahahahaha if you pay me 10 000 dollars Matt, i will come to England and do a training course with Blue! :p hehe

Will put Fargo on his extra long leash tomorrow in the open field and see how he goes with flying to me from a further distance :D

Did more training yesterday afternoon and he was perfect still :)

Miss Tabitha! Before you go gallivanting off anywhere, you gotta help me get my Beaks to do the Fargo (ie. somersault). I've had no luck at all trying to teach them and they just look at me as if I were a pork chop or something. I can't imagine how it feels to fly your bird outside - it's only a dream for me, 'cause I live in the city and there's nowhere safe enough to try. Barney and Madge just have to fly from the front door to the back door and poop on my head as they fly over it. :(

Congrats tab! Lovely photos as well. It's so sunny there! It was dark at 5pm here :( gaah, I want sun. (But not australian sun. Lol! I can't handle the heat...)

I need to get a harness and work with kiwi. She needs to be ready for summer and those upper 80 days! I hate those days...I melt :o give me -20 and I'm fine, but anything past 85 and I'm coiling in terror and heat. Haha.
