Hi all.
My blind baby boy, Benji, has AGY and at the end of the this week will be halfway through his 30 day Amp B course. I plan to clean big time the day after his recheck and then again even bigger after his 30 day course is finished. Pretty much everything he's ever touched or owned before has or will be going in the trash, because it's either not worth cleaning and honestly - I don't really want to risk it.

I'm hoping he's not prone to developing worse/frequent 'episodes'/doesn't esssentially get AGY again (though I'm aware most birds will live with it forever. I'm hoping it doesn't come back so badly, but I have to talk to the vet about what the chances are he gets it again and how to prevent long-term.)

His cage however, and his brothers' cages' (despite that both of them are seperate and seemingly fine..) + every surface near them (despite that Benji doesn't really get out at all, except for in a tent that is ALSO being thrown out...) I want to disinfect.
the TL;DR is:
I'm planning on buying F10SCXD because honestly it's the only F10 product i can find. I'd love advice on using F10 if possible, as I never have before. I also was thinking of buying these REScue wipes as well. Both are vetinary grade disinfectants, but I'm just nervous. Do I wipe down after using them? I keep finding mixed messages on both products. I've also only heard sparsely of REScue used against Avian Gastric Yeast. If anyone here has dealt with AGY before and trying to essentially eradicate it from their house, I'd love to know how you pulled it off.
TIA.

While I haven’t used either of these, just looking at the ingredients, I would say the rescue wipes seem safe, the F10 I would worry about little about the ammonia. That can be very irritating to the respiratory system. I would think that either of these products are probably okay so long as when you actually use them, the birds are not in the same area and I would definitely rinse everything with water afterwards to rinse off residual cleaning chemicals. Hope your little guy is feeling better soon!

Thank you! I hadn't noticed the ammonia, though I absolutley will be taking them out of the room for this clean, I appreciate it! I ordered them both today and hopefully they'll help keep him free of major illness. Thanks again!

We use F10SC consistently without issue, and there is literature about others using it as a nebulization treatment or adding it to drinking water, but, as you know, literature on exotics is thin on the ground . However, that only applies to the disinfectant, not the F10SCXD cleaner, which I don't believe we've tried. We use a different anti-poop spray on things that are particularly nasty because F10SC is not a detergent.

i've heard similar things about F10SC on its own, though not much. It's not something I personally wouldn't do w/o at least asking my vet, as I'm kind of torn between it sounds practical and it sounds kind of risky, but I honestly think it's pretty interesting. I'm surprised because I'd actually never heard of f10 until I started researching how to clean for my boys AGY.

I only got F10SCXD because it was honestly the only one somewhat-easily available for me, though I also did buy the REScue wipes to help supplement cleaning his things, as I'll be doing a lot of that for the next month or so. I've heard about the detergent aspect of it though and aside from that it needs more thorough rinsing after, I don't see it as a particularly bad thing, just a different thing. At least that's how I understand it, if I'm not mistaken.

I appreciate knowing it's a regular cleaning prodcut for people. I'm thinking if I particularly like the f10 or the wipes i might make them a more normal part of my routine, just to help disinfect especially things more than just one of them touch. So thank you!

Oh, I wouldn't ever use it in a nebulizer without specific vet instructions - that was more to mention that the toxicity is not generally high.

Edit: also, I hear you about trying to avoid illness - we started disinfecting more heavily after Olive got aspergillosis even though her room tested clean and no one else was sick.

Yeah of course. Good to know though, I hear much of the same!

/ and yes thank you. I've also tried to keep fairly clean, but the AGY is really pushing me into next gear i think for cleanliness, despite that honestly the risk is pretty low around here b/c benji doesn't get out much due to his disability, it's still just, nerve racking. I admit it's almost satisfying how much stuff of his I've found though that can just be gotten rid of or replaced. The boy IS getting spoiled in return for suffering through treatment... <3 thanks again!
