Rare birds as pets?

Rose is so pretty too!

Thanks, yes she is. She's one of those birds who never needs a beak or nail trim and is always in.good feather. She.prefers to bathe in her water dish and takes pride in her appearance, LOL.

But, my point with the post about Rose is to let you know you.can make friends with a bird who is.not crazy.about you at.first. I don't think its necessary for the bird to pick you.

You said in another thread that you do a lot of fostering for local shelters and such. Why don't you just adopt from a shelter? You as a foster parent have first hand access to birds in need at shelters. Why buy an over priced parrot at a bird store when your shelter would love to allow you to adopt one of the guys you foster?

You were considering a Grey. Greys aren't rare in rescues. And sometimes Hawkheads nd vasas are in rescues too

Pionus ARE NOT common in shelters. Neither are caiques

Sure they are. Mickaboo tends to have a ton. And both Pi and Cakes are readily found on rehome ad sites

A Pair of u2s, yellow naped amazon. I took care of (not fostered) an M2, and an emerald toucanet. Most organizations do not foster out if you didn't own a parrot but long story short, they found me eligible to foster and I did

That's very odd that you wouldn't go through the rescue your with. You could adopt and still foster from them. It'll help them out.

But whatever you choose.
