I am in the process of adoption but am taking it very slowly and meeting lots of birds. This past Saturday I was introduced to a sibling pair of hybrid conures (sun conure and black capped ). They are beauties--all green body with that black capped-/green cheek-looking face and sunny colors under their wings.

They are very skittish and I didn't handle them but they are also under a year and therefore I feel have lots of potential...[disclaimer: not to say an older bird lacks that potential]. They are currently housed together; would it be better to house them separately or more stress on them since they already have each other? Do sibling pairs tend to develop as strong a bond as other pairs? Or would it come down to socializing them 1:1? Thanks!

Well, generally speaking breaking a pair bond is stressful for a pair bond bird.

The sibling bond isn't stronger than a mate bond. But bonded birds, that are used to being together, that are forced apart can have issues because of it. Mostly constant flock calling for the other bird, with conures. Sometimes, grief and depression.

Depends on the birds.

My two bonded conures (my jenday and dusky) COULD NOT under any circumstances be separated. They would both flip out. They didn't even like you handling one without the other.

I'm not sure how to answer this one...

Out of all the birds you've seen so far, are these birds the ones you're most interested in? Do you plan to still see more?

Intersting hybrid, I couldn't imagine what they'd look like. Sounds from your description they visually take more after the Black Capped.

I can't give you specific advice on conures any better than Birdman can, but I wanted to wish you luck in your search (and throw the thread back up to the top ) As you've noticed, sometimes they can be pushed off the new posts list rather quickly.

Edit: I think it might be harder to tame two wildish birds at the same time, than one? Then I think it varies with individuals too. With two budgies who were bonded, the one (who passed away) still tamed down, while Twigs remains on the wild side to this day. My Ruppell's parrot is bonded to my Pionus, yet still is bonded to me (two timing lol). I think if one is ALREADY tame, they'll stay tame to you, but starting with two who have a wilder nature is an additional challenge.

I saw them again on Saturday. They look more like gold capped conure hybrids than sun to me. And I don't think I'm most interested in these; a black headed caique I met on two occasions (and will be seeing again next week) is still running through my head . I've been taking this process slowly and plan on seeing more in the months to come until my currently bird-less heart can't take not coming home to one anymore.
