Budgies. Lotsa Budgies.
I found one of my eight beloved Budges, Hunter, on the floor of his cage this morning all fluffed up looking like- a sick Budgie. He is making a clicking sound with each breath and is weak. I saw him pick at his food but back to the cage bottom he went. Of course, IT'S SATURDAY and the closest avian vet open today is almost three hours away so I had to bring him to an animal hospital that sees birds but has no avian specialist. The vet was real nice. She admitted that they are not bird specialists and examined Hunter. They prescribed Medicam and antibiotics orally and injected sub-q fluids and B12. I have no idea if this treatment will be effective but it's better than nothing, right? Hopefully he will hold on until I can get him to the avian vet on Monday.
What Hunter needs now is hope and prayers. I can't let Hunter die because he's very bonded wirh his cagemate, brother, Beau. (Their names are Hunter and Beau Birden- get it?) They are both hand raised (not by me) and are the sweetest most gentle boys imaginable. I don't want Beau to live alone and I don't want to get another budgie just to keep with him. He would love to share a cage wirh my precious girl Rocky (and so would she) but Rocky's in prime health and top breeding condition at nine months old and Beau is crazy about her, so they would surely start to go at it, and I don't want babies.
So, please pray for Hunter to recover! My whole feathered family will suffer if Hunter dies.

Sending prayers for Hunter.
I had a pair of bonded Tiels Lucky and Baby.
But it was Lucky’s time to go and Baby will accept no substitute company.
It must have been about 6 months before Baby started acting more like his old self.

Hopefuly what the vet did will help him hang on till monday.

Oh that's so sad to hear. Its not a good sign when they stay at the bottom af the cage all fluffed up.
I love budgies. My mum had 2 males and one of them died suddenly without any warning. The other one was sad for a while but he appears to be a happy bird again.
My thoughts and prayers are with Hunter

Thank you all who kindly prayed for my beloved budgie Hunter, but he passed in the middle of the night. I got up frequently to check on him and he looked like he was struggling to live yet suffering so much it broke my heart.

Now that Hunter's gone, his suffers no more, but his bonded brother and cagemates Beau's suffering has just begun, because he will never see his BFF again in this lifetime. I don't know what to do. I don't want him to live a solitary life. He deserves so much more than that. If I put Rocky in with him they may try to breed and I don't want that. What am I to do?

I am so sorry Hunter lost his battle.
I would give Beau as much extra attention as he would allow.
Make sure he keeps eating.
expect to see less activity.

I have tried to get Baby to make friends with one of my other male Tiels and he just won’t have it.
my 2 girls don’t seem interested in him and that’s good cuz I don’t want more baby Cockatiels.
Baby is more than 20 years old. I think he’s to set in his ways to make a new friend.
I don’t post much about my Tiels and there ups/downs.

Oh DonnaBudgie I am so sorry! As a fellow budgie lover, My deepest condolences to you. These tiny little birds hold such a big place in our heart. As you said, Hunter is not suffering anymore. You did everything you could. Hunter lived such a good life with you and was surrounded by love even in his last moments. My advice is to be there for Beau and let him tell you what he wants. He has other birds around so at least he is not isolated. My male budgie, Cooper, was alone for nearly a month after his cagemate and buddy, Grant passed away ( as I searched for a rescue to adopt from). Despite having lived with another bird all his life, he did ok being completely by himself (I had no other birds at the time). I would say you don’t have to rush into a decision. Give Beau and yourself some time to grieve and process before making a decision about him having another cagemate. Again, I’m so sorry and my thoughts and prayers are with you ❤️

That's sad to hear, my condolences go out to you and yours. I wouldn't go changing anything yet. Give it time. Just like humans need time to mourn so do birds. I've seen wild crows gather to mourn and I've seen aviary budgies gather to mourn, its such a somber sight to witness.
So yea, give Beau time, hopefully he becomes the cheerful little soul that he once was. Putting his cage next to another might be a good idea so his not alone

Thanks for your kind words. Beau's cage is right next to Rocky's and only four feet from the other three cages of budgies so he's not alone in that sense. Since Hunter passed yesterday I've been giving Beau a lot of out of cage time with Rocky and he's doing okay. He's a very easy budgie- gentle, tame, friendly, never bites- which makes it so much easier on us.

I’m crying for Hunter right now and you as well as I just lost my parakeet “Beauty” and I know how these babies struggle at the end. I am praying for Sweet Hunter to God to take care of him just like He took care of my Beauty. My other bird took care of him all the way to the end, preening him with such love. I swear to God, I pray for your baby with my whole heart ♥️ And God bless you and your bird family, all of you xo

You can get him a male mate. I have a female I think that I just got for my boy bird but they are not mating fortunately and I trust via prayer etc that they will remain celibate and just be loves without breeding but I’ve always gotten my birds a new mate when one dies and it helps them so much! Please do?! ❤️
