Sun conure is losing feathers around his eyes and his eyes looks swelled up.

That is EXTREMELY ALARMING. Please find a different vet.

Oh man I struggled to find that vet but I guess I'll have to keep looking around :( maybe if I make another appointment with them they will help. :(

No please don't make a second appointment with a vet who doesn't think a major issue like that is worth his time. You need a vet who sees your bird as a patient not just a paycheck.

I can't really afford going again :( but I'll find a way to make it work. Do you know anyone who has seen something similar to this?

I've seen other birds oozing puss, and I can tell you by that point it's life threatening.

It's frustrating, I know.

All vets have EDUCATION. What they don't all have are compassion, common sense, ethics, or the SPECIFIC education needed to deal with birds. It's important to find a vet with all these qualities.

It's not really oozing. Up close it's just dried up feathers with a greenish ball. Does anyone know a good place in Illinois in cook county? Near bridgeview?

That sounds like a crappy vet to me.

When I take Skittles to the vet, not only does the vet do a thorough exam, she also explains to me what she is doing and even shows me the areas she looks at and what they should look like.

Funds are also an issue for me too- I live on disability- but to be honest, when it comes to Skittles- money is not ever going to be an issue. I'd sell everything I own if need be to save his life.

You may want to consider, in the future, setting aside some funds each month for veterinary care. I have a system that works for me and just having it is reassuring- knowing that IF something ever happens, I don't have to worry about funds. I just have to worry about finding a ride.

@KeaKea

I think one of the main reasons most vets don't get the avian training is that FAR too many bird owners don't even bother taking their birds to the vet. They see them as 'disposable' like goldfish.

I also think cost of training and the fact there is this 'assumption' out there that birds are not as popular as pets as cats & dogs, but I think that assumption is totally wrong.

That's why I like forums like this. Where parronts are knowledgeable and caring regarding their fids and providing helpful feedback to others who may not be fully informed.

I used to be one of those who was ill-informed. I lost many a-bird due to my own ignorance. It wasn't willfill ignorance (like I knew but didn't care). I just didn't know. Once I learned, I was much better off and so were my birds. I just wish I had learned those things sooner. But we live, we learn, we do better.

So true. There have been times when I have been in a pet store and been standing next to people and the things I hear just irritate me. More than once I have heard a parent tell their child, "we are too busy to have a dog so let's get a bird", and they are looking at a Conure!! I have gone out of my way to "educate" them that unless they plan on devoting hours per day with a parrot then they are just going to end up with a problem. Every single time they have acted genuinely grateful saying that they just didn't realize how much time and effort goes into raising a happy healthy bird!

Conures can actually be more maintenance than some dogs. Suns, especially.

Skittles is constantly vying for my attention- you'd think he was ignored constantly, but he isn't. He just has to be the center of it all.

Yes, my Jenday is the same way! Much more needy than my maltipoo! Percival wants to be with me all the time. Luckily he is not too much of a screamer, but he will if he feels like I haven't spent enough time with him.
