The Rickeybird, 40-year-old Patagonian Conure
I almost can't believe I'm posting this, but... I AM!
Many of you have received portraits of your parrots from me; each one was a joy! Recently, I had an impulse to get a tat of my cielito lindo, The Rickeybird. I wanted something simple, sort of dramatic, and fun. Here's what I came up with. "Tricahue" is a nickname for Patagonian Conures in Chile/Argentina.
I am very nervous about the whole thing, but I am just DRAWN to the idea. I think I would want it to be a few inches across, placed just inside my should as if looking up at me.
What do you all think?
Anybody GOT a bird tat??
Anybody THINKING about it???
What would you get, if so????
Even if you're just fantasizing about it?????
I REALLY DON'T KNOW IF I'LL GO THROUGH WITH IT BUT I JUST HAD TO TALK ABOUT IT HERE! Had to. HAD TO!

Luv I have a fair amount of ink on me and I can tell you, regardless of the design, by FAR the most important thing is only use an artist thats the best you can find. Dont walk into a shop and accept the next artist thats available! Someone who knows well what they are doing will give you ink that looks fresh and crisp for decades. A hacker's will start to bleed and fade after a few years. Solid black tats are really prone to bleeding out and getting 'soft' if not done well. Me, I'd go for a single needle color one, done fine line style, what they call color realism, for Salty, and RIckybird has nice colors too - consider it.

Note the 'bleeding' here does not mean blood , but ink. I say go for it!

Agree. I have one question. How does that sweetie little friend of yours feel about marks on your body.? My Grey dictator attacks moles, freckles. My daughters tattoo at the base of her spine is target prime. Her calf is second.

I’ve thought about getting one of my beautiful Patcho.
Only color would do her justice.
But as Wrench says, only the best artist would due.
And I got no clue how to tell a good artist from a bad one.
You can go into a tattoo parlor and look at pictures till the cows come home but does that prove what artist actually made them?

I will absolutely follow your advice. I will research local artists and be sure to find a really good one.
"Single needle color, fine line style, color realism"... I'll memorize that for use if I actually get in the door and roll my sleeve up. Thanks, Wrenchie.

So far, he hasn't seemed to care. So far...
It WILL be in a place that can be covered if necessary. Thanks for the heads-up!!!

Oh MANNNNNNNNNN, that would be a beautiful thing on you, Tex, ole buddy.
Yeah, I'm planning on using local social media, YELP, other local internet stuff.
Hey... we could make a pact and do it at the same time!

Have you considered a piercing?
Nose or lip?
Bet the Rickybird would be entertained for hours LOL.

Nameliss did such excellent job of showing displeasure. I'm still wearing the same style of glasses after 12 years.

You 'n' me both, baby. Check out those Poindexters in my profile photo and compare to this most recent. Egads, I just admitted how old the profile pic is!

Yup! We're successfully trained to behave. It's actually simpler than replacing glasses every other day!

Yep! I have one of Ona. Not Yuri, yet! It’s a little more faded now than this.

I love to look at beautiful work like this. It's becoming so popular.

1. All of Wrench's advice is good. Most of my tattoos are souvenirs so I do just walk into somewhere and it's been fine, but I don't recommend it to others. Particularly if you decide to go for something more realistic-then you'll really want to do your homework to find someone who specializes in that style.
2. Do it. Absolutely 100% as soon as you can find the right artist. And then start planning your next one because tattoos and Lay's potato chips - you can't stop at one!

I want Bumble's footprints on my index finger where she sits. However she wouldn't be able to sit there for a couple of weeks while it heals so that complicates things a little. I also want one of her but I'll probably go with a more cartoon style so that it won't be bad when it doesn't look just like her. But we'll see.

I came.looking.for advice about this. My partner is a tattoo artist so he is covered in ink. Our yellow nape,. Popeye, loves him but keeps biting his neck where there is a tattoo. It's a lady's face which has big eyes. He wants to try letting Popeye sit on the other shoulder, but there's a giant wasp on that side of his neck. We can't tell if she's being aggressive because of big eyes or just trying to groom him. Should he just cover the tattoos with something? Is there a way to deter the biting behavior at all? I'm thinking either way she is trying to protect him or keep him healthy so it's not necessarily "bad" behavior, but she actually flies to him and he does want to let her perch on him, but no one wants to be bitten on the neck every day.

Bad feathers mean inability to successfully escape danger. I'm not sure how or why but some birds are more aggressive to skin imperfections than others. That includes the ink of tattoos. Mine won't even tolerate a change in my eye glass style. Try to determine for sure if the target is his neck or the tattoo. A cover will help with that.
