Our birds' room can be humid starting at this time of year (but is also nice and warm during colder months). A few of the Budgies have started to hold their wings out occasionally. We have central AC but it currently doesn't work well, and most of the house is fine with floor fans and a couple of window AC units. I don't want a window unit in the bird room because I wonder if it would be too cold/drafty.

For now we've been using this fan in there for part of the day. It looks small but produces a decent air flow. I usually set it the floor, turn on "low" or "medium" power, and aim it halfway toward the ceiling.

Would a tower fan be better? Do any of you use them in a bird room/area? I also looked at a few portable ACs online, but some are also humidifiers.

My parrots sit in front of windows with them open on breezy/windy days. I just make sure it’s above 75 degrees. None of mine have gotten sick (knock on wood). One of my parrots appears to enjoy a good breeze when he’s preening. You just don’t want a cold breeze which doesn’t seem to be the case with your situation.

Thank you.

We put the fan inside this spare cage in the bird room, to keep them from (1) pooping on it, (2) possibly sitting on it someday, when they get used to it being in the room. It seems to be helping a little with the humidity.

Have you checked the humidity? Normal is 30-60%. I prefer 40-50%. Higher can increase heat making it harder to get cool. There are numerous inexpensive devices online, stores that check temp, humidity etc. Check that as well as actual room temp. This will help your decision. I like the idea of fan in a cage to aid circulation.

Fans only blow the ambient air around. If its hot in the room, it moves hot air. THe cooling occurs by evaporation of moisture on skin.

We are looking at portable ACs also.
