Travels of EarlyBird

First, Cheryl I hope you have a wonderful trip, and travel with Gods blessings. And now I will be the proverbial wet blanket. God forbid there is an accident , even i minor one. Your baby risks getting thrown against the glass. A more serious one means the front airbag going off. People have broken arms, even jaws and ribs from being hit with an airbag. Inagine what they could do to a little conure ( same thing with Amy, Jim). Salty's longest trip to date has been a 2 hour trip to my office. He ride in a pack-o-bird , propped up on a cooler so he can look around out the windows. The P-O-B is seat belted into the front seat. Never loose in the car while it is moving, he is just too inquisitive for that, even with 2 people in it. With one person, me, forget about it.
On these 2 hr trips, I stop mid way to let him out to explore.

I pray none of this advice is needed and the worst thing we hear about is the talking out of class type of incidents. Be well and safe travels.

You sir are 100% correct. I actually appreciate your care very much and I thank you. You aren't a wet blanket at all. I know your advice comes 100% from love for all of the birds.

I actually did try to weigh out my options for travel. I truly want a pak-o-bird, but it's not possible yet. I have her cage seat belted in the middle of the back seat...but I almost feel like it's also a dangerous alternative as far as getting flung into bars or dishes and perches. I have the small carrier, but no way to secure it. It's way too small for a long drive at any rate. I think my choice came purely out of wanting to stare at my bird as long as possible. It's not the safest route. You're right about that.

We're not on the road yet, but she's clearly ready to leave.

Omg I love it. What a great idea. I thought about taking my kiwi in the car, maybe putting him on my shoulder. But I like your idea way better. Thank you.

I bet people almost drive off the road laughing and pointing at such a cute and comical sight!

We love you, btw, Mr. WetWrench. As CC said, we know all you say comes out of love!

I doubt I'd ride the RB on my shoulder anymore, but I used to. See? I HAVE grown up. Some.

Such a cute thread! Thank you for sharing!

Last night we got to the hotel about 1 a.m. and took about an hour to settle in. We chose Best Western and they just LOVE EarlyBird. Shes been there alone half the day today. I miss her. She traveled well. Slept in her bed most of the ride. The only remarkable thing in the morning was she was utterly unimpressed and dissatisfied with hotel breakfast of a sausage biscuit and egg. I guess she misses her coveted farm eggs at home, lol.

Her only remarkable event during hotel life has been getting some fresh juice, raisins, cheerios, and climbing mountains of towels. Breakfast cooked by anyone other than us, still not appreciated.

I thought I would be shunned last night , but she was so sweet. This morning she cared very little that we left. My husband had to laugh at my worry for when she's sad, and doubly worried when she's not!

Quite the little worldly bird! She might need travel stickers on her luggage...

Plus, now we can call her WorldlyBird.

When I picked her up today at hotel check out she was pouting- nothing new there- but I let her out of her cage and she launched an actual attack on the evil green cheek in the mirror of the room 😂😂

Haven't we all attacked a mirror now and then?

Bahahaha wish I could say no

I can't believe I'm just seeing this thread! It made my night, thank you for sharing the details! I can't wait to hear how EB did in church:)

We got home tonight at 7p.m. and not a moment too soon for her royal highness. She's had her cage the entire time, but she was so glad to be home. Gobbled her pellets for 30 minutes ( they were available and accessible the entire trip) and went straight to bed.

She was absolutely wonderful for church. We even went to a park with friends and their children for lunch and she actually had a great time interacting with the children. I was shocked.

But a few things she did that were new, she learned to scream her fool head off 😂 she's actually a full blown conure now! She did it at weird times, gas stations, drive thru's and the best of all in the grocery store.

We had planned to come home last night but friends invited us to stay the night so we could drive after resting. They were very sweet and accommodating for letting us bring in our bird cage and share their home. She didn't make a single sound. Not a whisper, click, or chirp. They had their 80 year old mother living with them and she adored Earlybird. She tried a dozen times to get a kiss, but EarlyBird shunned her 🙁 she said she loved birds, and years ago she had a Mitred Conure, but it loved her husband and not her, and when her husband passed the bird really screamed endlessly and she had to rehome him. Broke my heart! She kept trying to talk to EarlyBird and give kisses and Early just shunned her silently. Made me so sad!

Well, it came time to say our goodbyes, we got in the car, and before we pulled out of the drive Early exploded in talking. It was OBVIOUS that she knew we wanted her to talk and withheld it intentionally. She said more words than ever. For 6 hours all the way home. Stopping of course to scream constantly at restroom/food breaks.

I got one of my favorite so far pictures sharing a plum with her on a lunch stop.

Awww, the story of your friend's mother is so sad:( But I bet she really enjoyed just being around EarlyBird, even without the kisses. That little stinker, saving all her talking for the road! Maybe she thought she was still in church and should still be quiet:)
That picture is adorable, what a look of enjoyment on her face!
I have so enjoyed your travels, thank you soo much for sharing with us:)

Her Majesty is back.
Her kingdom and subjects can rest.
