Update on Move

Hi guys and gals and birds of course. I have missed you all. The move was so exhausting I barely can move. Wanted to let you know my computer will not run the CD Norton in my computer so I am taking it for a geek to repair and will not have it to use for a while. I am now on a computer that is for use by the residents of this apartment. At least I have the ability to check in every once in a while. Thanks all for your messages. Rosie did well with the move, better than I did. Later....

Wow that was quick, maybe you should start a removals company
call it "Spiritbird's Speedy Removals"
Glad it went well and it's finally over. Take your time, settle in, take a few days, make sure Rosie and Christine feel safe and secure.
We sure have missed you on the forum, by the way, we all behaved ourselves, in your absence.
Get that geek working on your computer real quickly okay.

Thanks everyone. I do have one problem now with the acutistics of the much smaller space. When Rosie sings or calls for me it is so dang loud I am afriad I will get complaints from any of my 4 neighbors. I tried covering the cage but she continues to be loud. If I get complaints I will not be able to keep her which is exptremely upsetting. She mostly starts early in the am like most birds and wants me to feed her which I do but the lound bird sounds do travel far. What I have been doing which is not good is to take her out of cage at those times to be with me and she is quiet. Yes I know this is a bad thing to do as she will quickly learn that she can get my attention and will call loudly more and more. I am open for any and all ideas. Thanks.

I have had similar problems in the past, where waiting out the scream simply isn't an option. Try pre-empting the screaming by feeding her a bit earlier. Try and figure out the times in the day when Rosie is likely to make loud noise and give her attention before she does. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it did help a little with Eddie.

AB beat me too it - just what I was going to suggest.

It's not good to let them out or give them attention when they are being loud - but if you know when to expect it and can beat them to the punch, this is a great way to go.

They get to come out when they want to, but it's on their terms, and they are let out while quiet. If she makes (excessive) noise first then try not to let her out.

Basically it's the 'catch them being good' strategy.

The two above suggestions are very good ones. Excellent job, guys!

Never respond to a bird for his screaming-- it will have terrible consequences. You can cause your bird's screaming to worsen if you're not careful. And always praise Rosie when she's silent, or as close to silent as she gets.

When ever I move into a new house my dogs are extremely unsettled and bark at EVERYTHING (I've not moved with birds yet). I always visit my surrounding neighbours to let them know they may bark a bit as they are getting used to new surrounds, smells and noises however this should settle within a couple of weeks. I ask them to please let me know if it becomes a problem and I'll do my best to fix it. I have never had a complaint. I think it's because they know you know about the noise and it's hopefully only temperary

I also don't complain about noise coming from my neighbours - one side go to work at 5:45am and stand outside thier house talking very loudly while they warm up the cars. I figure if I put up with thier noise they'll put up with mine

I'm glad the move went well. You've gotten good advice already regarding Rosie's screaming. I'd definitely make your neighbors aware that there may be some noise...maybe tell them along with some cookies or something. Bribery can be a good thing.

Thanks for he suggestion. It does sound workable. She is not being excessive with her parrot sounds it is just that in this new apt. she sounds much louder. When I get window coverings up it may help. I will also be proactive in giving her attention when she is quiet. So far she is good this morning. I filled her with an omlet, melon and blueberries for breakfast.
