Good morning everyone. We still haven’t found Mischief.
We’ve taken several steps for her safe return, some of which I’ve already discussed. We’ve put her cage in the front yard, her big perch in the backyard, and her small perch on the roof. We have reflectors to deter hawks from attacking the chickens we sometimes foster but we took them down to avoid confusing her if she flies over. We’ve put posters all over our neighborhood and other neighborhoods in our general area. My mom, Dad, and I have spent most of our time since Tuesday walking around and calling for her and using her clicker (she was being trained to associate the click sound with treats). We handed out flyers to every person we saw walking. We made a Facebook post, a Ring post, and a Next Door Neighbor post. I work at a school, and while it’s unfortunate I can’t afford to call off again to look for her today, I’m handing out flyers to each teacher I work with and am requesting they share the information with their students, while also discouraging prank calls, as we’ve already gotten a few. One person tried to scam us and sent us a picture of a bird that definitely wasn’t her and was one they found online. It broke my heart to see a Galah that wasn’t her and think about never seeing her again. We’re also keeping an eye on local listings to see if someone finds her and tries to sell her. If anyone sees anything, please message me.
I keep losing hope, but I’m telling myself it’s not fair to her if I do. If she’s out there, then she needs us to keep going until she’s found. I just worry so much about hawks. If it weren’t for them, I’m certain we’d find her eventually. I saw a hawk circling yesterday, but two crows came and attacked it without provocation. There’s been at least 5 crows for every 1 hawk I’ve seen, so I’m hoping that if she’s in danger and screams out, some crows will come to her rescue. I know they’ve been known to save other random birds from hawks.
People on Facebook have said they lost their birds here in my city and found them after a few days. My neighbor said he lost his red-hooded parrot (I forget exactly what species) and after a week found him in a park. If they survived, I hope Mischief can, too, even though she’s so young.
If anyone has success stories about finding lost parrots (especially in dangerous areas) and could share them, my family and I would really appreciate it. I don’t want to hold onto false hope, but any boost of motivation and strength is priceless to us.
Thank you for reading. I hope you’re all well. Attached to this post is a photo of the flyer.
