Alexandrine parakeet
Today my partner took Monty to the avian specialist for a general first check up. All is well with him, apart from the very asking how old he is, we said he's just over a year old, then the vet told us that he's really small for his age (and by small I mean really small) we stood him next to one that was half his age and he was only up to his shoulder. Poor Monty=(

He's still a pure bred alexandrine, only he's genetically smaller than the others

1 Alexandrine
1 Greenneck Parakeet
1 Sun Conure
2 Greencheeked Conures
1 Pearly Conure
1 Crimson Bellied Conure
He looks really cute small is beautiful, so I tell everyone as I lack height.
Of all our seven parrots are alexandrine who is heading for 3 years old is the sweetest by far and gets bullied by my three conures. Kosh is in love with a greenecked parakeet called Merlin who he lives with and even she is not always nice to him but he is totallly besotted.

There are different subspecies which may account for size...

And I'm sure you are aware that some alexes are being hybridized with indian ringnecks for color mutations, so when you say he's pure, I'm assuming you mean that he doesn't have any IRN blood in him. I do know that after x-amount of generations, some breeders will say that their alexs are pure again, even with hybrid blood.

As long as *HE* is healthy though, I doubt it's anything to be concerned about! Ya, so what if he's smaller than others! That just makes him even more unique to you!!!! :D

Haha, yea he has a great 'little' personality.
The doctor said he's definitely not a ring neck hybrid. He's pure alexandrine as hecould tell by the size and shape off his beak and broad shoulders.

Alexandrine Ringneck,
about to be getting a Jardine's
I am concerned about my Alex's size as well. He's 10 months old and teeters around 210g, give or take. Do these birds keep growing with age? I know pionus do, and my friend compared his year old cockatiel to the baby pics and it's definitely a lot bigger as well.

I should say I'm concerned because I previously had a grey mutation IRN who was tiny. I compared her to normal green IRNs and she may as well of been a different species with the size difference.

Ozzie - alexandrine parakeet
Alexandrines mature when they are 3 years old, but not sure the exact year when they stop growing. Ozzie looks pretty good to me, from his head to his tail, he would be around 40cm, and he is only 19 weeks! He is a good size for his age, the vet told me he is a healthy, happy, pure bred male alexandrine. :)

I would say Yuki is on the small side, she looks about 50cms (would say more likely 47cm) She is about 1 and a bit (I think).

Alex is about 55cm+. He is about 2 (I think).
If you see these two in person you can see the difference. Alex is more broad and he has a larger beak.

I know when Yuki's breeder they said Alex looked like a nice large boy.

Wow, Alex is a lot bigger than Yuki, but from the photos you posted they looked the same to me! And I was wondering how you could tell them apart! Now I know ;)

Haha yea, it doesn't help when I take pictures of them. Yuki loves to stretch out and alex likes to squish himself in. If that makes sense xD
Alex truely hates the camera. Yea it's very easy to tell them apart in person. :) Yuki is much smaller than Alex. :p

Jordan, you mention that your Alex is a hybrid, so he's likely to be smaller than a pure alex to begin with...

Welcome to the forum, btw!
