So I saw these birds in a local aviary shop and now I'm curious! Anybody have any idea as to what they could be?

Those are “rickeybirds”:p aka Patagonian conures (Rickeybird is one of the more notorious parrots on the forum;))

The only thing scarier than one Rickeybird..... THREE of them! ;)

They're such beautiful birds... I just can't help seeing Gail's poor chomped finger when I see a Patagonian conure. I have no knowledge at all about them apart from reading of the Rickeybird, and he's surely one-of-a-kind. So in fairness, here's what the Interwebs says about Paragonian conures:

Also known as Burrowing Conures. Some call them Patties for short.

Patties have eyelashes.

They're primarily from Argentina.

Suitability as pets:
"Patagonian conures are among the most affectionate, social birds and make fantastic pets, but the decision should not be taken lightly when deciding to adopt one. Patties, as their admirers call them, are capable of mimicking simple words and phrases. The Patagonian conure is capable of integrating completely with an entire family, unlike many birds who will bond with only one person. One issue with the Patagonian conure is that it is extremely loud. Living in an apartment with any conure may be inconsiderate to neighbors, but Patagonians are the largest and loudest. Also, Patagonians require a great deal of attention and become ornery and spiteful if stuck in a cage with no social interaction. The Patagonians need stimulating toys with lots of colors to pass time when alone."

I believe that Patagonian Conures are the largest in the Conure family.

and quite possibly the loudest. I saw some in a parrot fair a year ago.

Uh, nobody told Rickeybird! [emoji23][emoji23]

Like ”KIRBY!”

Again, RB missed the memo. I’m dying here.

At least it got the part about “very loud” right!

It just goes to show you that stereotypes are made to be broken. ;)

OMG....Rickeybird will be horribly offended when he hears A. that someone didn't know what he was, and B. that there are "others" like him LOL!! Talk to GaleriaGila (she is the owner of the infamous Rickybird!) :) Love it!!

You guys should STOP picking on Rickybird.
it's disgraceful and unbecoming of us.

That sweet birdy cant even defend himself against Gail's,
I am so sure, slanderous words.

(i'll bet she deserves every nip and bite)

Uh oh...One, two Rickey's coming for you...three four better lock the door lol!
I love RB...even though I have never met him :)

In fairness to the OP, RickyBird is a Legend here about and enjoys a brisk and loyal following. Like near all Parrots, if you are willing to put the time into developing a trust bond, you will be well rewarded.

ooooh nooo Gail i was just joking! (feebly)

no one deserves to get bit after giving so much love and care.
some birds are just unruly.

My Max loves to ask for scritches, bites and then laughs.
and I deserve it cause my sense of humor is so mean spirited.

Uh oh, I hope the Rickeybirds fan army didn’t scare off the OP!

S'funny, we saw one at a fair we were performing at, and he was the most affectionate thing ever, snuggling into shirts and sweaters and loved head scratches. Just goes to show ya that each bird is it's own person.

Wow thank you all for your replies[emoji23] I will be sure to apologize profusely to Rickeybird.

Y'all, I cannot possibly tell you how flattered and gratified I have been by all the posts. This Forum has been invaluable to me in my journey with the Rb, truly it has.

Not to mention the good it has done for me and the Rb's Rival...
Instead of feuding about our Rb-hassles in so-called 'real life', we come here and joke about it.

Ain't dem things Patagoonian Condors?? ;) :D

Jim

Al, I think it's the rooster 'Gonians who are often stinkers. That has held true for the few who have appeared here. If only we could have the Bird neutered............................

Jim, I don't know if you know this or not but the wife's sainted mother never could quite get the species right, and often bragged to people that her daughter had a wonderful pet Patagonian Condor that sat on her shoulder and gave kisses. For those who knew birds, imagine their horror.

Well, now that the Rb has totally hijacked this thread, I'll add some appreciation. It has been a hoot. My thanks.
