First I have to say something important. I just notice that I have a picture next to my name.
I can't remember what you call it. I just would like to say Thank You. It of Cash my cinnamon GC.
Now back to my question. For me I bought to at once. What it was I thought since I live alone and I pretty much stay by myself, I felt it might be to quiet.
And I had the cage and the room so I came home with two.
And now I have 4. And if I get lucky on the 7th of September, it maybe 5. The raffle is on the 7th. Here is Cash

I've always had more than one bird since I've been bird-keeping. I started in 2000! I started with two budgies, then five cockatiels... then the rest is history, LOL!

My job, traveling with a bird and 2 small dogs working 12 hour shifts discouraged me from a second bird. I settled down in one spot. Again I was discouraged. Overwhelmingly and obvious jealousy of my CAG. I didn't want to deal with that working 12 hour shifts. Believe me, I have been tempted so many times. I am often over protective in my bird and dog care. Never without a potential dangerous medical reason. My avian vet has offered me a CAG and once a pink cookatoo to rehome free with cage and accessories. I had the room. I had bird tolerant old dogs. But I had an aggressive feathered roommate and 12 hour shifts critical care. Yes I regret it. But I feel it's the best. Nameliss after 9 years still hasn't accepted 100% my service dog. Pulling his tail through cage bars to hear him scream for momma is her favorite pass time.

My first “second bird” does not reflect well on me.
1984 first bird was a wild caught Orange wing amazon.
We didn’t know anything about parrots but we wanted one that would talk.
Plumas was not a good candidate for talking and didn’t want anything to do with us.

So we went looking for a for sure friendly and proven talker.
That was Bingo our yellow nape. He was our second bird one year later in 1985.

I picked up a third amazon in 89 because she chose me and was being rehomed.

The next true “second bird” was Baby the Cockatiel.
I acquired Lucky my first cockatiel by accident as he found me outside my working location.
I…….I could tell he wanted something after bringing him home and I thought he wanted a friend.
Went to pet shop looking for cockatiels and we were literally walking out the door when we heard a strident squeaking.
When we looked back one cockatiel had managed to stick his head between the bars of the cage and calling desperately for us to return.
That was Baby .
They hit it off together like peanut butter and jelly.

Merlin would be the third “second bird” but this is getting a bit long. Maybe later.
If you really want to hear the story.
