Parrots
Eclectus Parrot: Nico (male)
Sun Conure: Charlie (male)
B&G Macaw: Blue (male)

This is exactly how this situations plays out:

Veterinarian: Parrots need 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Can you make sure you do this, and cover his cage?

Me: I concur, I’ll cover his cage so he can’t get distracted from other parrots, and can rest.

Blue (the Mac daddy): I think not… I’ll pull down this blanket 3-5 times, and turn this into a game.

Me: After 5 times putting the blanket up I give up

This is the reality of parrot ownership!!!

So true!!! Especially the bigger birds; I feel as though they are even more toddler-like in their antics. My almost 1 year old ( human) niece has reached the stage of realizing how fun it is to throw things on the floor. Last night after she decided she was done with her cup and chucked it off her high chair tray, one of my family members jokingly asked her; ā€œ what are you, a parrot?ā€ šŸ˜„. Best of luck to you as you deal with your Big Mac. It’s a labor of love isn’t it, lol?

Gotta use that big human brain to outsmart them.

Macaws do have exceptional intelligence my Mac can outdo my American black lab and Australian Shepherd border collie mix with tricks training all around. I do often think that macaws can outdo some humans in their puzzle skills. I also think the orca has a lot more intelligence than some humans.
