Will it be safe??

My sister has just brought these mug painting kits in for my mum and stepdad to do. They have to be put into the oven after painting...is this safe to do with birds in the house..??

I wouldn't take a chance unless you have a good direct to the outdoors vent fan over the appliance. A hood that recirculates won't get any possible fumes out of the house. You could move your birds to another area of the house that you can close off while baking the mugs then air out the room well before putting the birds back.

I agree with the above posting. Just to be safe, putting your birds in another room and then airing out the room with the oven in it afterwards would probably be a good idea. I don’t think acrylic would be harmful but I don’t know for sure. On another note, I think those mugs are a cute idea

Lots of warnings on the package. They really don't want to be responsible for whatever might happen with the mugs or the paints!

I mean no offense to Louise22's sister - it did look like a fun craft until I read the box.

I'll check at Lowes where I work but I think all paints have similar warnings. Once a paint like this is cured it would seem that most risks no longer apply. Don't all of us use household items that have "paint" on them without any real risks? Doesn't this whole thing sounds overly cautious? Are these novelty mugs going to be used by birds?

To be fair, there was a woman who used Gorilla Glue spray on her hair, claiming that it was a "multi-use" product and the packaging was not specific enough about what you can use it for.

I agree with above. No matter how the precautions are labeled someone will do it wrong and complain/sue later.

Is there actually no risk? We dont know for sure. People in general sure have a lot of issues these days from something. Im not blaming paint, im just saying.

I don't know. Sometimes I wonder where common sense went. Too many instances of this kind of thing.

According to Snopes and Wikipedia, she started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the cost of surgery to remove the adhesive, but one plastic surgeon offered to do it for free. So she donated the GoFundMe money to a charity.

However, she also released a rap song and started her own line of hair products, so she must earning a bit of money from the publicity.

The well-ventilated area is commonly a warning of possible real hazards. The use of a home cooking oven is not recommended for anything other than cooking foods! In addition the statement recommends covering furniture, which should have most folks not using that product in their home!

Note: moving birds to other rooms rarely is a good idea as those rooms are common upstairs or near the kitchen. Always better to remove the birds from the home or at least in a room in which fresh air is entering the home!! Just opening a couple of windows does not assure that.
