I heard somewhere that stuff like Christmas wrapping paper is harmful to birds and that you should just use plain white paper.. is this true? I wanted to wrap up a present for my bird with wrapping paper so that he could rip threw it and have a blast with it, but i heard the coloring in the paper is toxic or something.

My understanding of paper dye is it is no longer—CORRECTION— TOXIC!

Printing dyes (inks) have changed over the years and will likely continue to change.

Non-gloss, Black /Gray printing ink (dyes) have become non-toxic. Think news paper. Which makes an inexpensive wrapping paper for Parrots and kids by the way.

The dangerous printing inks (dyes) are the glossy ,bright color prints. Those products are very toxic!!

I use white butcher paper (food-safe), on long rolls (for economy) for cage-tray liners. I also use it to make shredding toys. The color may seem boring to us, but I don't know if parrots care about color or not.

If you wanted to you could use kids paint or food dye to color Kraft or white paper.

I do save the comics to wrap gifts in. Mostly for my dad.
