Georgie used to HATE nail clipping until i taught her to lay on my hand and hold her feet up.
That's exactly how Sweet Pea gets her nails clipped! :) Lories just naturally roll on their backs and play, so I used that to my advantage. I wanted to show her the nail scissors weren't to be feared, so I tapped them on her nails in a playful manner. She loved the tapping noise and started imitating it, and then when she was relaxed, I started clipping. With each nail that got clipped, she imitated the noise it made.

I sure hope Gilbert gets comfortable with the nail clipping! :p

I do different clipping methods depending on which bird I'm doing...lol...

Willie, must towel. He runs if he sees the clippers.
Java, I clip his through the cage bars and he would stick his foot at me and allow me to clip them. But I must be alone!
All small birds, must towel, even Malachai.
Ekkies, towel.
Dixie, I clip her while she's on my arms. She don't mind it too much.
