For those of you guardians that trim your birds nails what do you use?
It is a nail clipper or a nail file.

Do your vets use an electrical trimmer or not?

Just curious

nail clippers

Thank you TessieB

Our vet uses an electrical trimmer.

Do all vets use this method or not?

My mobile bird groomer uses a nail file and also clippers if the nails are quite long. I usually will not allow her to clip their nails. I just want a light sanding on their nails. NO, I will not allow anyone to use one of those electric grinding wheels on their nails, it's to easy to go to far.

JUST KIDDING!!!! :D

Depending on who needs a little trim I either use clippers first, followed by the dremel, or just a file. :)

I use the clippers for the little guys and the dremel for the big guys (CAG and Pionus).

Thanks Mike

I only allow Dr Brent Russell to use the electric trimmers on Mishka, he is the #1 bird Dr in South Africa.

I have tried to trim Mishka nails with an nail file, he does not like it at all.

I use clipper but do own a dremmel to file if I needed to. That's if someone would be brave enough to hold my birds for me.....lol.....

My vet uses clipper and dremmel.

Great thread! I hope to try to trip Savannah's claws. I am thinking a nail clipper and file would be a good start!

I use clippers, the little dog ones because normal nail clippers don't make a dint in Fargo's nails ;)

He sits on the back of my couch, puts his foot in my hand and just stands there perfectly while i clip each nail, and file them down with a rough nail file :)

I use the same type of nail clipper I use on myself, for all of my birds.
