About HOW we name our pets...

I'm having so much fun reading EVERYONE'S replies. They're making me laugh, or at least smile :) I'm loving this!

Well, my most bonded bird ever was my BFA, who also came to me with a name.

And this is what you get when you allow 12 year old boys to name a bird!

The bird's name was PECKER-HEAD!

Pecker for short. And she was fond of telling me how pretty she was!
(I told everyone I didn't teach her that. She just saw me changing my pants one day, and just decided to start broadcasting it to the world...)

This is the same bird that knew the phrase F@#& YOU! in context, and would use it when she was mad, or didn't want to do something...

Also the same bird that used to launch to my shoulder, do her happy to see you dance, and then stick her head in my eye socket before I could even get both feet in the door.

I still miss her!

ROTFLMAO Birdman!!!!! :D and why in the world would you change that name?? It's a classic! Hahaha OMG, that is just TOO funny! Oh, that whole post was funny, thanks!

Oh! I've been meaning to tell you too... I love the way Sweepea is spelled without the T. Very cute.

Wait.... Birdman, wasn't it Pecker who was found beside a dumpster? Or was it another girl Amazon of yours?

Last but not least, Chewy: He's our 4-year-old shorkie (shih tzu and yorkie mix). He looks like a mini Chewbacca. He doesn't have a tea party name because he is not refined enough to use the good china. :p

The others would tell you it's because he's a dog :D LOL I bet he's a real
cutie looking like mini Chewbacca! Clever PB... First thing that came to my mind was Peanut Butter for some reason!

Actually, it's a shame we refer to PB as a girl, because I thought of the cutest male tea party name: PB Jellyfella. It just makes me giggle.

I think Chewy is adorable, but I'm biased. Here is what he looked like when we named him. I just recently laid the last of the 2 bunny slippers to rest. There was very little left of them. :)

I tend to name a pet whatever it tells me its name is. And the funny thing is, usually a name pops into my head when I met the pet.

There was once a loose pup dashing through our neighborhood, a Miniature Pinscher, and I knew he was someone's dog who had escaped the leash. I looked at him, and called, "Hey, Spike!" and he stopped in his tracks, looked square at me, and then dashed as soon as I began to move. I ran into his person a few hours later, an older woman standing in the library parking lot looking around, and she said, "Have you seen my dog? His name is Spike, " and showed me a picture! She did find him eventually, thank goodness!

Whoa.. I see a psychic connection there :52:

Animals know me, and I know them - that's just always the way it has been! I was kind of surprised growing up to learn other people's brains didn't work that way!

@dustbunny - aww Chewy IS super cute! Definitely a resemblance there :) only WAY cuter than the Star Wars character!

@PetoftheDay - I know that certain people DO have a real "connection" with animals. Animals also seem to have a "sixth sense" about humans too. Probably explains why they like some people and not others?

Fun thread!
Cuzco's name was actually come up with by my boyfriend. I thought it was suiting for a South American bird full of attitude, especially given the Disney movie with sassy Kuzco.

My white-faced cinnamon pearl pied tiel's name was Tsuki. Such a cute, sweet sounding name for the sweetest bird ever. It's Japanese for "Moon", which also suited her perfectly, given her spotted white-and-grey appearance. The name was so perfect for her (and lent itself well to nicknames, like Kooky, Ooky, Tsuki-dookie, and my sister's invention, Tsa-kook-a-dook). xP

My dad's dog was named June by me. It took probably almost a month to name her, because my dad wasn't really decisive and my brother kept veto-ing everything in favor of really weird names. But she kept eating junebugs under the porch light, so I suggested we call her Junebug. That's technically her name, but we told my brother we thought her name should be "June" instead, because otherwise he'd probably think it was stupid. Yet another name that can make good nicknamed: Junie, Junibelle, Juno, Juniper...

Our family's first dog was called Somebody. They were trying to find a home for the stray puppy, because they thought she was going to be a big lab. My mom kept referring to the puppy as "somebody", who needed a home... it stuck. She often got called Somebods, though. :P Or Jo-Jo or Joey.

I like uncommon, unusual strange names.. But not too weird! :p

I watch ALOT of shows and movies, so i try and find the weird names that are different!

Fargo: A tv show called Eureka, Fargo was a scientist, he was so cool and nerdy :p His name was Douglas Fargo, but everyone called him Fargo..
So Fargo's full name is Fargo Douglas!

Klaatu: The day the earth stood still, Keanu reeves character was an alien, called Klaatu... I thought it was an awesome name, so i said that next horse i get would be called Klaatu!
His full name is Klaatu Barada Nikto- Which is the phrase they used on the movie meaning- Klaatu save earth!

Kitai: Next i watched the preview for After earth when the trailer was released, and saw the name 'Kitai'.. I thought ok, that is so cool, my NEXT horse will be that! ;)
Kitai's full name is- Kitai Prime Nova... Because on the movie the planet is called Nova Prime! :)

Kyros: I can't even remember how i got his name.. I realised i had two 'K' horses, i might as well make the third one a K also! :p
So i am fairly sure i googled- Weird names starting with K..
and i saw Kyros, i think it means King or Ruler in some language, which is true, he thinks he is the boss of the 3! :p

Kyros's full name is Kyros Colossal Velocity..
Becauseeee, if you have watched the trailer for Alan Partridge, he does this funny thing where he says Colossal Velocity.. I thought it was amusing, so i said Kyros's full name will be that ;)

Lastly- Cypher: I had that name written down on my name list for a while..
Cypher was the name of Kitai's father on After Earth... I liked it because it was unusual..

If i ever get another horse ;) His name will be Keltar... Named after stargate.. I watch stargate and write down the awesome names! Frolac, Kalan, Sokar, Skaara ;)

My 3 favourite 'normal' names are: Hugo, Horton and Bernard :p

Tab, that's SO cute - your "name list". I just LOVE that :p

I really like Cypher. The Stargate "space age" names are cool too ;)

this is a fun thread :)

my German Shep/ Husky I named Harley- as in Harley Davidson -took me 4 days to come up with that name ;)
Motley my Dacshund/J/R- he's dapple or mottled....so I came up with Motley

Cadbury- she came with her name, we had adopted her at Easter so it was fitting.
Whiskey- she has really long whiskers, I didn't like the name whiskers, so I named her Whiskey.
Bailey- she is a calico, so I named her after the Baileys' Irish cream
Snuggles- is my daughters cat, and she named her, and is such a cuddlebug

Num Num has a funny story behind his name- the first time I hand fed him he made these yum Yum noises-I guess it tasted good, so I said "It's Num Num good", that's how he got his name :)

Tundra- cause she's white and beautiful

Halo- I hand fed him @ 6 days old(long story) and I just thought he was lucky to be alive, so we named him Halo

Magnet- because he is just that, he is a cling-on

Sunkist- she is a deep deep yellow cockatiel

Blush, someone intelligent came up with her name from on here :)

same with Tie-Dye, got her fantastic name from here :)

Kahlua- she's my Pineapple conure, and she is the colour of the drink Kahlua

Flare- love this name it suits her to a tee...Sarah came up with that one

I have more but I can't keep going, there are just too many :)

Beth, I see you got exhausted there... :) What mutation is Tundra? Is she albino, or does she have a bit of cinnamon to her?

Very interesting thread! Well, I named Bixby after the star who gave my favorite rendition of Dr. Banner (alter-ego of the Hulk), Bill Bixby! You know... since the Hulk is... well... green. (My nephew felt compelled to point out that, given my reasoning, Ferigno would've been the more logical choice of names. I was obviously unmoved by his argument. :p Though I'll keep it in mind if ever we get another green bird.)

Totally useless fun-fact: Dr. Banner's first name in the comics as well as all the movies is Bruce, yet in the 80's tv series it was David. Why? (I thought you'd never ask!) Because the executive "powers-that-be" of the network felt that the name Bruce wasn't "manly" enough for the character! Bizarre, no? I mean, aside from the fact that BRUCE Lee was pretty much THE MAN, that's just such a weird thought process. It's not like his name was Alice or something! (No offense to any male "Alices" out there! I'm sure you represent the name with all due toughness! Lol!)

Okay, useless fun-fact digression over. Just thought I'd share. ;)

Oo! Oo! I want to join! Hmm let's see...

We'll start with

Louie - Cockatiel - Named her when I was 6 or 7 and I adored our dog we had then that was named Lulu. So while driving in our awesome Astro Black Van one day I was just word playing with LuLu's name and got Louie!... who ended up being a girl 14 years later when she discovered birdie masturbation and laid an egg. But oh well. :)

Nibbler - Polish Rabbit - Named for Lord Nibbler who poops dark matter off of Futurama. Plus he Nibbles on eeeeeverything.

Nova - my sweet adorable outdoor cat - Corbin has a cat named Comit, which reminds me of Space, the Final Frontier, and so she was named Super "Nova" to stick with the space cat theme.

Seamus - my newest addition (who I also need to do an update post on, since I'll have had him for a week tomorrow!) - GCC - I have a strong Irish passion, it's in my blood you know! My favorite book series of all time is the Sevenwater's Trilogy by Juliet Mariller... and if Seamus had somehow ended up being an African Grey when he came along he would have been named Liadan (which means Grey Lady), but he is not. So sticking with my already planned Irish bird theme name... I sifted through all the character names until I found one that I liked for him. Thus, Seamus (pronounced: Sheamus). Seamus Mcloud to be exact, gotta throw in some Highlander reference too. Haha
