Balancing work with feeding parakeets?

I have three parakeets and am planning (…trying) to start working 20-30 hours this summer. However, I live in a city where a lot of restaurant jobs don’t start til 10/11am and close anywhere from 8pm-12am. My budgies like to eat fresh chop, sprouts, herbs, and seeds (haven’t been able to get them on to the pellets..). I was just wondering how others balance working with feeding their birds?

Welcome to the forum! Good Looking keets that you have! As for the feeding the fresh food, how often do you feed them now? They will have an adjustment period with your schedule.

Thank you! I haven’t gotten hired yet…just noticing most places want evenings. The eat fresh food around 8am in the morning, given some seeds or snacks midday, and then eat fresh food again around 6pm.

It's not easy to plan until you actually have a schedule. It can be done with proper planning. I worked rotating 12 hour shifts day/nights ER, ICU with unexpected overtime. I had a light and TV timer (before smart TV), he ate pellets. So small dishes scattered around cage. If he dumped he had to scrounge. I used mainly chop that didn't dry out in small amounts. Premade some in fridge. Then swapped out when I got home. He was cooperative most of the time. I did have to doze in his area part of my sleep time. Planning is the key. If you have a general idea do test runs. Leave, go to the library, window shop for short and approximate time. Get the feel. See how you and your flock react.
