Break out

So chester had a couple of hours out of his cage this afternoon .
After he went back in he had a quick nap.
When he woke up he spent ages going around the cage doors trying to work out how to open them.
My question is would he be clever enough to do a break out

Some are! They worry areas looking for weak spots. They know that they open some how. Opening doors and throwing food dishes is a favorite activity.

I may have to get some clips for it just to make sure as I'm now feeling worried about it especially as he seemed to be very methodical in the way he was doing it

My CAG worries a "large parrot proof lock". All I have to do is leave it a hair loose and she's out.

Back when we first became parrot owners about 17 years ago. My son was in JR high, and when he would come home from school he'd get the BHC out. Well quite a few times I accused him of not putting them him back in his cage or not shutting the door. I would come home and a BHC would be roaming the Living room. My son would say "I thought I shut the door". Or I did put him up. Well this went on for weeks, and one day I caught the BHC culprit opening one of the doors on the flight cage. OMG the flight cage we have has LOTS of doors. With the exception of the main door I had to make sure that every other opening was locked down. MY poor son.....I felt so bad for accusing him. Just goes to show how smart our parrots are.

That sounds sounds so much like me before I began double and triple checking locks. If going to leave the house adding a shake for good measure.

Make sure clips are bird safe. They are in his territory. To be investigated and examined.

Well, Jordan's cage has a big stick which locks vertically the main door - if you take out the stick still the door stays closed and needs some force to open it. So now Jordan knows that so if i take out the stick he climbs on the edge of the door, put his beak in the middle of the bars and opens it . And he is still a baby...!
