COVID-19 Virus

Yesterday was the highest coronavirus death toll yet in America, at over 2,800 deaths in a day.

With over 46,000 recorded deaths in little over a month. We doubled our total number if deaths in the last ten days.....

The coronavirus death toll at this point is higher by more than 10,000 than the yearly desths from influenza...

You do realize these numbers are purposely being exaggerated!

On the marginally good news front...

The stores are doing a little better. I think the supply chain is starting to adjust to the new shopping habit of Everyone shopping to fill their fridge, & then not shopping again until the cupboard is bare. (As opposed to normal, where people frequently stop to "pick up" various items and don't do multi-week shopping at one time.)

I went to my local grocery store and they were fully stocked with most items -- including TP!! (Not ALL Brands... Not the Soft Cushy type TP... but plenty of the plain cheap kind!) Also -- oddly enough, given recent news about plant shutdowns -- even the Meat Case was Fully Stocked.

At checkout, the bill seemed shocking. Even though I had done the math in head & knew it was correct. I figure that normally in a two week period, I would have spent that much or more... just, normally, Not All At Once.

It was awfully chilly waiting in line outside the store before going in. I Definitely agree with the distancing measures, and even with limiting people inside the store at one time. Nonetheless I stood there thinking about how getting chilled commonly lowers immunity enough to cause illness too...

And regarding those MASKS...

For anyone like me who already had some of the first-aid surgical masks on hand. (Or who like me even had a few of "anti-viral" masks, which also used to be available at CVS.) Anyone who, like me, thinks a cloth face-covering is all well & good for going for a walk up an empty street, but wants something more protective even just to go to the store. (Surgical Mask UNDER cloth face covering.)

... The standard surgical face masks ARE washable. Yes. Even on HOT. Even with Bleach. (*IF you can safely use it in your household... I use it Much Less than I used to, but due to the layout of this house, running the washer with bleach Is perfectly safe.) And dryer-able too. Just put them inside a lingerie bag or sweater bag, and they Will survive the washer.

Whether a medical professional should use one of these masks after washing it? I don't know. And I'm certain the bleach (I only bleached them once btw) is not even necessary, as we've all been told soap & water & friction (ie handwashing) is enough to destroy the virus in 20 seconds. Therefore soap & water & friction from agitation should certain do the job in 15 minutes!

At this point I've washed & dried my surgical-style masks several times. I'm convinced they have just as much, or possibly more, filtration ability as before the first use.

Seriously you think that? They don't need all those refrigerator morgue trucks during flu season.....
Every country has admitted that many coronavirus deaths are going uncounted.

Those photos of the trucks were proved a fake quite some time ago! Not a single hospital was ever overrun! The news reports that you saw were pictures of Italy and they got caught using them! None of the emergency treatment centers were used!
The hospitals have more beds available than ever and are in financial trouble! All elective surgeries have been stopped, which is the livelihood of the hospitals!

I was born in England and worked for the National Health Service (NHS) for a very short stint in the 1980s. I can only hope that Boris Johnson’s recent “come to Jesus” moment will motivate him to save the NHS from the privateers and corporate raiders who seek to convert public health care in the UK (and the rest of the developed world) to the ruthlessness of the user-pays model. As if the pandemic itself is not frightful enough, how many deaths must already have been caused by the afflicted being too scared to seek medical attention lest they find themselves burdened with a hospital debt that might take many years to repay? I’m hoping that those same privateers’ endeavours to make inroads into the Australian health care systems have been similarly set back!

For those that missed today's National Update on the monster virus, which included Dr. Bryans presentation on the virus when exposed to Sun Light and especially Summer Sun, Humidity, on non-porous surfaces, and a number of other environments this virus half life is extreme short compared to other 'studies.'

Love the foundation of old, strongly tested studies compared to special interest studies of late.

In short, if the Sun is shining, and the temperature is in the 70's -- Get outside and enjoy it...

Well I’m finally getting to look forward to the end of my current assignment. I work through the upcoming weekend and go back to my normal job on Tuesday. I feel very out of touch with my job after five weeks assigned elsewhere. I hope to get to work from home for a week or two before things start to progress toward reopening. My flock would be thrilled and I’ll feel like a less-terrible parront :).

Truth starting to slowly get expose. like I stated months ago, as I suspected it came from that lab due to reports. Plus someone stated it highly possible it could have came from their lab, but made them retract that statement to cover it up? Do I think it was done on purpose? No and reason being due to known poor practices it got leaked out. Just the CCP regime is known to protect itself over the people and covered it up and reward people for covering stuff like this up, it exposes a much deeper problem with the CCP regime. They took it as no big deal and continued to celebrate Chinese New Year, instead of controlling the spread early on, even after being warned of a possible pandemic could happen. If they acted early on and been truthful about the virus, they could have save many lives. but the regime decided to cover it up causing more damage as a result.

Over 50,000 deaths in America from this monster virus. It's hard to grasp.

I guess we are going to way pass our hopeful 60,000 estimate.

Florida over 30,000 cases and over 1000 deaths.

My parents live in a condo, the couple below them was on a world cruise in March when over 60 people tested positive. So they were kept quarantine for two weeks before coming home. But they were never tested even tho they were sick. Another freind is an ER nurse , he is mid forties just came off working 30 days straight. They want him to have down time, and to be tested before returning to work. He is having great difficulty getting tested. He also told my parents this virus is terrible on the he human body. And for them to take the highest measure possible to not become infected.

Was not a fan of that group's specific model as it predicted a peak with a rapid decline. Europe's experience has been a slower reduction. Nor did it assume any hot spots, which have occurred since the peak. It's a common fault of models that attempt to predict across the vastness of this continent without consideration for timelines of different areas, hot spots, and the transient factor (virus carried by travels who infect new areas) with the virus.

May your Parents be safe and avoid the neighbors for at least a few weeks.

They "predict" the weather with models right?:confused:

In my line of work I tell folks that the biggest source of variation is the human and now with many humans performing their own risk/reward analysis the numbers tied directly to the virus are going to go up.

So, I've taken the cover-19 test. Yes, the original virus test that uses a swab that seems to go in forever! Once in place, it's a couple of spins (ouch) to assure that they capture whatever maybe at that far upper corner. I was assured that what little brain cells are left are not removed as part of the process!

So, I arrived at 3:30 pm (that's 15:30 late for Scott). The line was short, only three vehicles in front of me. Within a short few minutes, I arrived at the entry check point. The individual held-up a card that instructed one to call a number and check-in. A couple of quick questions an a minute later I was directed to pull into stall #4. Not a busy time as of the six stalls only two where in use.

I was provided a instruction document and told to remove my face mask and tilt my head back and turn slightly to the right. A couple of minor adjustments and the insertion of the swab occurred. No reason to repeat above.... And yes, ouch.

Turn around time, mid afternoon tomorrow (Monday)!

Was it the end of the world, no! Would I want to take another, no! Did I take it because I'm sick no!! Just a requirement of an elective surgery that had been on-hold for a bit over six plus weeks. Life gets better very soon...

I've seen footage of correspondents receiving the nasal test and they always wince. Probably induces teary eyes too! Hope your result is a big negative, Steven!!

At first I was like oh no my buddy is sick!!! Then I kept reading. I'm glad you feel good, hope it's negative!

Likely the correspondents are receiving the 'special treatment' as although the wince was there, the eye(s) never watered.

With the exception of the Spring Allergy Season, I have not been ill what so ever, plus, Mrs Boats controls the where and when. With the exception of the cabin, her guys are under tight control... :D

Steven, the thought of that swab makes me wince....I'm waiting for the q-tip version :)

I truly understand your feeling regarding the q-tip version. But, now that every lab in most every States have the ability to complete the testing in 24 to 36 hours (faster if you are in a hospital), plus there is like millions of the swabs available you may not have a choice. With hope by the end of May when they are out of the head diggers used, the easier q-tip version will be the rage... I so agree with your opinion my friend.
