COVID-19 Virus

In Florida the FEMA sites, are having low #'s show up. So if you show up even if not in one of the priority groups they are vaccinating you!! They want to use their daily allotment!! My freind and her brother in the healthy 30-40s got vaccine this week!!@

So check out your FEMA site you might be able to get vaccine too!!

That's great news! Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are use it or lose it on daily basis, so end-of-day standby folks can get lucky.

We'll soon reach the availability threshold to see dramatic lowering of age brackets into eventual free for all. Only wild-card is how many folks will choose to bypass inoculations. Hopefully enough will participate to achieve herd immunity. (folks getting the virus and recovering completely apparently help achieve herd immunity by the numbers)

Afternoon news, Lord I hope this is more than testing the water: "State of Michigan 'may' open Vaccination to all Adults beginning 1 April." I so hope this is not an April fool's thing!

News Flash from on-high in Michigan! Those 16 and older will be able to sign-up for the Vaccine beginning 16 April!

It is very hard to not get excited about this, but!!!

In other news, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued Austin, Texas, and the county that contains it for refusing to lift local mask mandates, following Governor Greg Abbott's executive order ending the statewide mask mandate. Abbott issued the order despite warnings from health officials, who urged local leaders not to reopen prematurely amid the coronavirus pandemic.

I would like to see a Legal Eagle Summary on this one!

The issue at play there is the interpretation of the State Constitution and specifically the separation of local government from State Government rights! That will play-out in front of your State Supreme Court.

In my opinion......Texas' governor is a completely reckless, irresponsible, approval-seeking, hypocritical and contrived jerk who doesn't care about anything but getting votes from all of the "good-ole' boys" who have been throwing fits about masks this entire time.

On an unrelated note, I got my 2nd vaccine at 4:45 today. So far so good, but I am really scared it will get bad overnight.

I suppose I will feel some relief in 21 days, but it feels less triumphant knowing how states are handling these new mutations that are resistant to the vaccine.

Florida is the state with highest number of the Uk mutation.......Spring breakers are here, the golf, tge Daytona 500 , Bike Week. So all those people will bring it back to their / your states.
We were so close to beating this. But with the behavior I see in Florida....the pandemic will surge again.

Long term effects can happen even with mild infection.

Well, without surprise, Michigan continues to swing around regarding the opening of the vaccine. This morning and the most recent statement from our Governor is that Beginning April five (5) all adults can receive the vaccination! It's anyone's guess what will happen in April at this point. At least today, all news groups are reporting April 5th as being open to all Adults.

Regardless, it is the choice of individuals as to whether they get the vaccination. At this point, the choice % is running about the same as the choice to get the flu shot. This is likely one of the largest factors that is driving the floating dates regarding the opening date of different groups.

Point is: One can scream as to whether this or that governor is right or wrong. But unless individuals will or will not get the vaccine is what will reduce transfer in the future. Where is the outrage regarding that point!

The issue will be played out further at the polls when the governor and the attorney general seek reelection.

Yesterday, a district judge denied a restraining order, which would have restricted Austin and Travis County from enforcing their mandates until there was an official ruling on the merits.

Perfect illustration of historic tussle between Federal and State with added level of Local choice! Seems a wise ruling permitting Austin and Travis County to enforce local measures.

The suit also sheds light on internal rift within the state government. We have the state attorney general attempting forced compliance of the recent dangerous irresponsible executive order by governor Abbott, lifting all Covid-19 restrictions. The suite is against the state's capital and the county it is in.

I understand that the US is a representative republic, but it would be a federal act of terrorism for me to poison a water supply or knowingly spread some disease which has no concept of state boundaries...Think about anthrax etc...

It's one thing if you make reckless choices in your own state if they do not impact others, but this logic that states are separate/individual when it comes to a contagious pandemic that spread from 1 PERSONNNNNNN last year= CRAZY. States can do what they want when it doesn't impact other states, but all it takes is one idiot governor to reset the progress of the entire US and world...Remember that first case in the US last year? Did it stay in its state of origin or spread like wildfire to the rest of the country?

1 person....in 1 year......infected the entire world indirectly...Yet we still want to allow individual states to make these insane and ill-advised moves when it comes to opening up against health guidance etc...That is crazy...

It's illegal for someone to open fire on a crowd of people in any state. Walking around maskless is the same, but far worse, because if you infect one person, that person goes on to infect others and so on...the ripple effect is massive...

I get that states have rights, but when one state's rights trump the rights of the rest of the world, I have a really BIG problem with that...because it's not just about that one state, it is about the entire planet and stopping a deadly, mutating virus that doesn't care where you live...

Plus, can someone please tell me why "click it or ticket" /seat-belt laws are SOOOOO universally accepted, but mask mandates are not? I can kill way more people without a mask than I can without a seat-belt.

Or no smoking in public places as it effect more than you!!!

Sorry, but I would rather deal with the frustration of a representative republic than socialism. Have seen both close and personal and IMHO, the frustration is well worth it!

I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying. My only comment is that since I don’t know how old you are, I wonder if you remember when seatbelt laws went into effect? Or helmet laws? Or anti-smoking laws? They all have reached high levels of compliance and nobody much complains about them *now* but now howdy there was some kicking and screaming when they were first made law! So the mask mandate hasn’t had the time for everyone to get over themselves and move into acceptance.

And I will continue to be optimistic that maybe we won’t need them for long enough for acceptance to happen. Crossing my fingers for herd immunity!

A Texas woman was arrested after refusing to mask-up or leave a Galveston bank located 45 miles southeast of downtown Houston. The incident was published yesterday.

Even as Texas Governor Greg Abbott has lifted a statewide mask mandate, private businesses are still allowed to implement their own mask rules, capacity limits or other safety guidelines.

She faces charges of criminal trespass and resisting arrest.

I can see the incident being a thorn for Texas Attorney General, in the wake of his Covid-19 restrictions lawsuit.

I have Covid-19 restrictions and mask requirements posted at the entrance of my business.

I remember the introduction of the Texas seatbelt law back in 1985. I was one of the mild complainers. Resistance was futile. The issue evaporated. I remember friends that complained about the helmets.

I remember, there was resistance.
Smoking amongst consenting adults is not the same as going to a store without a mask around other people who have no choice but to get food for their families. When the smoking in bar bans happened, I complained because anyone in a bar knows that smoking is dangerous and that they may be exposed-- that is a choice, but it isn't contagious and it certainly is not essential. If I smoke at a bar, I don't flat-out kill anyone (any those who are there chose to be). Even prolonged exposure to 2nd hand smoke in adults is far less deadly than covid though. Plus, you can smell smoke and move away from it, unlike covid.
I'm not even a smoker, but I get that. I do not get this whole mask opposition thing! It's not like smoking around someone makes them and every other person a smoker, whose smoke then causes everyone else to become a smoker....

The US is very upset by shootings/crazy violence etc (rightfully so) but how can we turn a blind eye to behaviors that are killing far more people?

It took 1 person without a mask to indirectly kill MILLIONS of people.
